Upon waking up, Kaito noticed he was still in the same hospital room, confirming that the encounter with his 'mom' was only a dream. He sat up, denying everything that happened the day before and making false scenarios as to why his parents weren't at the hospital with him.
'They probably had to drop my sister to her magic prep classes' he thought, wiping the sleep and exhaustion his eyes with a slight chuckle.
[ KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK]
Kaito jumped while turning his head to see who was at the door.
"Kaito, it's me, your doctor from last night." A familiar sweet voice rang through the room. Entering the room was the tall doctor who wore glasses that looked like an old man designed them. He had the same welcoming, warm smile that he wore the night before. "I came in to say happy birthday! I also haven't introduced myself or told you what's going on because I didn't want to overload you kid." He said, closing the door behind him.
"Thank you… "Kaito mumbled, eyes blank of any expression.
"Good morning Kaito, a lot happened to you over a span of 3 days, and I really didn't want to be the one to break the news to you. My name is Doctor Leoristan, but you can just call me Mr. Leo to make it simpler for you. I do have some good news and bad news, which do you want to hear first?" he said, grabbing a chair to sit by Kaito's side with a serious look on his face.
"Uhhh… the good news please..." he whispered, barely loud enough for the doctor to hear.
"Alright, so the good news is, today is your birthday! You're old enough to have the grant read your powers to you, are you excited??" Mr. Leo said with a growing smile, trying to get Kaito to smile as well.
"No not really... My mom usually makes me a cake on my birthday and sings to me, so I'm waiting for her to do that before I celebrate." Kaito said, ignoring his attempts at making him smile.
Dr. Leo noticed his attempts failed so he fixed himself up awkwardly and grabbed his clipboard. "Ahem... any who, are you prepared for the bad news kid?" He said, a smile fading to a more concentrated look.
"Yes please..." Kaito said, fumbling through his sheets.
Dr. Leo wished Kaito hadn't wished to hear the bad news. How was he supposed to reveal to a 10 year old boy that all of his family died? He didn't want to be the one to tell him the news either, but someone had to do it right? He let out a deep sigh while looking at the kid but fixed his expression to smile a little.
"I'll tell you later kid. For now, I need you to get dressed so I can take you somewhere." He said while taking off his coat. Upon removing his clothes, there revealed a black suit that fit perfectly and neatly around him. "I'm going to take you to meet the grant, you're probably eager to hear your powers, no?" he said with a smirk. "Just knock on the floor when you're ready." He continued.
"Wait what??" Kaito said, voice filled with confusion. "You heard me, just knock on the floor when you're done, I'll be waiting." The doctor replied.
Kaito was confused with this comment because why would he need to knock on the floor, but his questions were soon answered as he saw the doctor open some sort of magical warp and hopped right into it, disappearing in an instant. 'What in the world….' Kaito thought, rubbing his eyes to make sure he wasn't imagining things. He got up from the bed and looked down, confirming that his doctor had indeed disappeared with some kind of transportation magic. He quickly grabbed his figurine that was lying by his bed and drank a bit of water to prepare himself. After contemplating whether he should do it or not, he succumbed to his curiosity and crouched down. '3.... 2...1' he counted down slamming his little fingers on the ground. In that moment, that same teleportation gate opened up before his eyes, causing his jaw to drop and eyes to widen. "No way... "he whispered while examining the gate.
"Well, are you coming in? Or are you just going to sit there and look like a deer caught in headlights?" The doctor said from the other side of the gate.
"I- I'm coming...!" Kaito stumbled. He continued to gaze into the gate with eyes of wonder as he noticed that the inside showed blue skies with '1… 2… 3… 4…' four big clouds he counted, but he couldn't see any further than that because he didn't actually peek into the gate yet.
'Alright…' he thought to himself. His thoughts were getting the best of him as he pondered about entering or not.
"Can you count me off? I'm feeling a little nervous..." Kaito yelled from his side with a whine.
"Ahhh sure, I'll count you off, but you MUST get in because after you're in, I'm closing the gate kid." The doctor said with a stern tone.
"Okay, got it." Kaito said, sealing his side of the deal.
"Alrighty, jump right on through in 3…. 2…. 1! GOGOGO!!" Dr. Leo chanted while looking through the hole to see if Kai was still there, and right before his eyes, Kaito leaped through the gate head first so that he wouldn't be upside down when falling through, but since it was on opposite sides-
[Meaning that after he went through the portal, gravity reversed since he was standing on opposite sides of the world]
-he fell straight through, and the gate closed, causing him to fall straight onto his back.
