Synopsis
The Frontier, uninhabitable and extremely hostile. With the loss of the Kampf gates 40 years ago leading to the Frontier, Avril Breton and her small band of mercs have to get buy with the limited amount of resources on an inhospitable planet. While on the other side of the Frontier, Rise Preson has finished his Mechanics degree and has been accepted to the only prestigious school in the Frontier. How will their paths meet, and with the re-emergence of the Greater Hegemony war is brewing... Note: This is my first "real" novel and so expect the quality to be sub-optimal in the first batch of chapters. Outwards Frontier is partially inspired by the game "StarSector."

Chapter 1 - 1: Kampf Sector

The gates connected humanity to the stars; the first gate leading to the Xfx sector was found behind the moons of Neptune, and soon just under 250 years humans conquered 30 more gates. The 24th of those was the Kampf gate. The Kampf sector had the most amount of exotic resources ever seen by humanity. But it's not to say that no reward came without risks. With these risk came the birth of the "Outwarders," groups of mercs who ventured into the sector and its planets for its resources. As the saying goes, "anything and everything can be done when the price is right."

But on the 47th cycle of the 6th rotation, the gates shut down. Just like that. In just a second the Kampf sector was cut of from the rest of humanity. All 1.2 billion souls in the sector were left to die. Needless to say, the people of Kampf weren't that easy to kill. Already used to the hostile conditions and limited resupplies from the Lunar sector, the people weren't going to give up all they had worked for. With the economic powerhouses of the Krabe Khurta Industries and Collins Manufacturing, the Kampf was fully independent. However with this freedom led to war.

Avril Breton was part of the 4th generation of Outwarders. Her father had been one, as well as his father, and his father before him. Outwarders were becoming a dying group, since most of the core systems had been explored, most people started settling in and begun building a proper civilization. It was her 11th mission, but this time, oh boy, this time it was big. 2.5 million K-Credits (or Kreds) to retrieve a science probe that had landed on New Triton III. But like her father always said, "things that are to good to be true, usually are." 2.5 million Kreds though, that would be enough to retire for her entire crew, so of course she took the job. Avril was equipped with her trusty AM-Mac 58 burst rifle. While her 3 crew members, Erer Murphy the head engineer, Rony their quote on quote "professional" excavator, and Lilly Baily their technician were more lightly armed, but heavily armored with their Mark 4. Gen 1 Exo armor which could take all but the heaviest firepower.
