Amelia sat drinking her morning coffee. The house was silent, and she wondered what time Nickolas came in last night. They hardly saw each other. They were living like total strangers. The wedding plans had been put on hold, he refused to discuss anything related to the wedding.
Amelia's need for control meant that she went ahead with the plans behind his back.
The fact that he was not letting her in on the baby saga was infuriating. She saw Grace as Vulture that would do anything to make a buck. she knew their type.
As she mentally went through her list of boutiques she wanted to visit for her wedding gown, she needed a pen and paper to jot everything down, and after breakfast, she was meeting with her wedding planner. she wanted everything to be perfect. While she and Nickolas sorted their differences, the wedding plans needed to be in motion. Becoming Mrs. Meyer was no small matter even for her.
She made her way to Nickolas's study in search of a notebook and pen. The office was immaculate. She thought as she went through his drawers.
she went through each drawer but found nothing resembling a notebook, instead, her slim fingers fumbled upon an unusually thick file in the last drawer. She took it out and went through it. Her heart raced as she went through the contents of the file. 'he was stalking her.' her breath caught in her throat, she couldn't understand what was it about this girl that Nickolas could not resist. It was not beauty. She was plain according to Amelia's beauty standards and she was not rich, Nickolas stood to lose more by involving himself with her. then why her?
She made her way back to the sitting room and sat playing with her diamond ring, she also stood to lose more if this wedding didn't happen. She had to make sure that he fulfilled his promise and that nothing and no one stood in their way.
When Nickolas came downstairs for breakfast, Amelia was waiting for him. she lifted her eyes from her hands and gave him a frosty look.
"Good Morning to you too Love," he said pulling his chair.
the tension between the two was tangible.
" What is so good about this morning?"
she spat out the words. and continued to stare at her engagement ring.
"How long are we gonna live like this" he was concerned with the way things were falling about between the two of them.
"Until you fix the mess you created with that girl," "can you imagine what the press would do if they got hold of this?"
He simply shrugged.
" I already told you, I have everything under control, and her name is Grace," he stated matter-of-factly
Amelia pushed the file onto the table. he looked at it once and recognized it.
"You been stalking her." she accused
"And you had no right going through my stuff." he got up from his chair. and stood by a big art piece with his hands in his pockets. the art piece was a recent purchase and it had a calming effect on him.
he let that conversation go, there was no point in pursuing a heated argument so early.
Now that he knew for a fact that the child was his, the baby came first regardless of Amelia's feelings towards Grace, he needed her to understand the baby was his only blood relative.
He never wanted kids of his own and Amelia had made it clear that she did not want any babies. he was fine with not having kids but now that he had a child out there, he wanted them. but
Four months had passed and still, his PI had not located grace. recently he felt like he was on the verge of losing his marbles. there was also the possibility that grace might have given birth already which meant she could be anywhere.
He kept on checking his phone for any updates but there were none.
An old contact had promised to contact him with news about Grace, he said he had something tangible that he hoped he would like. he was not sparing any cost in finding her.
James came in and whispered something to Nickolas. he left and followed James to his study. leaving an agitated Amelia to deal with her rage.
Once they were alone, James handed him a courier bag.
"This just came in for you," handing Nickolas the parcel. the two men looked at each other with anticipation. James let out a sigh. He was the only person that Nickolas could talk to. he was more of a father than an employee.
when he finally took out the contents of the parcel. they stood looking at two hospital files. the first file was that of a newborn. it contained all the baby's details and birth weight. but the date on the file was dated two months ago.
Nickolas could not hide his excitement as he handed James the photographs, certain that the investigator must have added some of his work to the file. the pictures were taken with the mother unaware.
"James I have a son!" he couldn't hide the grin on his face.
James went through the pictures, shaking his head. he could not believe that they had finally tracked Grace down.
"This calls for a celebration." Nickolas was standing next to him with two glasses of whiskey in his hand for a toast.
"Congratulations," James said hugging the overly excited man.
They toasted to the continuation of the Meyer name.
then he picked up one of the pictures again. he could not believe how proud he already felt. he knew that he loved that baby with all his heart. never in his wildest dreams did he think he could father a child, let alone have an heir to continue his legacy. he exhaled and felt the tension from the previous weeks fading.
with the celebration done he put all the pictures into his safe. He would look at them again later together with the second file.
he made his way back to the breakfast table. he couldn't take the smile off his face. Amelia noticed the sudden change in his mood.
"You in a good mood" eyeing him across the table.
"James was just informing me that they have located Grace...and the baby" he was still smiling, and didn't notice Amelia's face turning pale. she chuckled. the look on his
face told her he had already made his decision
about them.
