Chapter 5 - Professions

Seeing the five options I had to choose from a calm expression remained on my face. These were all the professions that superhumans could choose from.

The process was irreversible and there was no such thing as a wrong choice. it all was based on preference and what the person thought was the best for them. Each Profession was different from one others ultimately, they all had different classifications in each profession, and they were in their lane completely.

Pugilist was the most common and popular choice among all supers. They were a go-to and you couldn't go anywhere wrong when pursuing this path. They were for all intended purposes cultivators from the novels since they would absorb the energy in the air and would turn it into their own qi and would train in qi-based artes. The artes were different based on their specialty but remained the same: they were all qi based and you needed qi to use them to the maximum potential.

There were different styles of the Pugilist profession but these were just specialties that separated pugilists from one another. These specialties were also called branches. They were multiple specialties such as Assasin, Berserker, Martial Warrior, Knight, etc. Pugilists would be referred to by their specialties rather than their profession. An Assasin who was an S-Grade Super wouldn't be referred to as an S-Grade Pugilist, they would be recognized as an S-Grade Assasin instead.

Psychics were a mysterious class that mainly specialized in mental and soul attacks. They were feared for many reasons such as being able to kill you without actually having to see you in person. They could pull your minds and souls into dreamscapes where you would have to battle it out in their territory, they could manipulate that environment at will and toy with their opponents to the point of despair.

I've heard stories of Psychics assassinating their opponents in their dreams without any warning and without leaving a single trace behind. Leaving them as nothing more but a soulless vessel, a walking flesh bag. They have also been used for espionage and other high-risk level missions, there's a good chance that the harmless smiling corpo you see and walk past is a very ruthless psychic with a high body count. I've heard reports of high-grade psychics being able to affect the physical plane without dragging their opponent's minds and souls with their power alone.

Being a Psychic was a very interesting class and I would be lying if I said that I didn't have some interest in exploring it but it wasn't enough for me to actually walk down the journey myself. Sure they had very frightening mental and soul attacks that everyone had to take seriously since both the soul and mind were the most vulnerable parts of the human body but they had one defining weakness that made most people steer clear of this profession, their glass canon bodies. so I moved on to the next option.

Arcanists were just like Pugilists when it came to their specializations, there were far too many to count. Some Arcanists specialize in melee combat, making them a formidable foe even to the strongest Pugilist where they would use their spells as an edge to gain the upper hand. There was also the traditional Arcanist that specialize in ranged attacks with extremely high destructive capabilities and even the feared summoners that could summon hundreds to thousands of monsters to fight on their behalf. There were even some of the darker, more sinister ones that would specialize in rituals and sacrifices.

Superhumans would choose this over the Psychic Profession ninety percent of the time since Aranist unlike Psychics could rectify the weakness of having a weak body. While it wasn't enough to make them boldly challenge a Pugilist in hand-to-hand combat they didn't have to worry about being targeted all the time as the weak link.

But what made Arcanists separate themselves from the rest was that they were the fastest money earners of all the Superhuman Professions. They were able to create scrolls, enchantments, formations, and artifacts that were always in high demand throughout the world. There even Mages who didn't specialize in combat and strictly only did business were massive international entrepreneurs that had many partnerships with the megacorporations, academies, and clans.

Engineers were just like Arcanists as they had many branches one could choose from. They could be supports, tanks, commanders, and assassins, the number of paths and engineers could take with their machinery was endless. All paths had the same thing at their core though and that was to create machinery and all types of gadgets.

But unlike Arcanists that could create the supply and make profits off the demand, making them serious money makers, Engineers were the demand in serious need of the supply. Engineers were the most costly profession out of the five and it would only increase as time went on. For this reason, almost all engineers had the major backing of a corporation or academy. Anomalies such as self-made engineers were rare as they could be counted on one hand and that number was less than five.

Engineers were also the best hackers money could buy. There were cases of corporations having large amounts of confidential information compromised and virtually infiltrated by hackers of a rival corporation or just lone hackers who were bold and skilled enough to carry out a cyber attack on them.

All in all, Engineers were priceless members of any organization, you must have them or you were just setting yourself up for failure and yearning to be devoured by other more established organizations.

And finally, I smiled as I looked at the final option I had. An option that I knew I was going to choose as soon as I found out there was an S-Grade Awakening potion in that suitcase. I would be an absolute fool if I didn't pick after falling on such a heaven-sent advantage as the potion.

It was the most unique yet risky class of all the Superhuman Professions. A class where based on the outcome you would ascend to Heaven as long as you played your cards right or descend to the deepest pit of Hell if fate dealt you a bad hand.

The most unique yet complicated Super Profession, The Esper.
