Blood gushed forth in a violent and abrupt manner, causing a shimmering red mist to hang in the air for a split second.
For that briefest moment, Brett's mind turned blank. Zane's blood seemed to creep into his eyes. All he wanted to do at that time was kill. Kill the person who dared to hurt Zane.
Thankfully, the other human beings did not wait until Brett went berserk. Someone from the crowd had the good sense to disarm the shooter before she pulled the trigger a second time. The woman was stunned. She did not believe that she had just raised his gun against someone.
"I... I don't mean it," she said to Zane. "I am so sorry..."
Zane had nothing to reply with.
The gunshot left a burning sensation in his shoulder. The pain, accompanied by blood loss, weakened Zane's knees and caused them to buckle. A pair of strong arms grabbed him and pulled him back to a standing position before his knees hit the ground.
