Zane went back home at seven that night. Aiden bought a few fat, live chickens from the market for dinner.
Zane hung a chicken upside down and peered at the screaming chicken in his hand.
"I would rather drink human blood," he said.
"Chicken blood is a refreshing alternative," Aiden pointed out. "You don't want to attract any attention."
Zane gave Aiden a cheeky smile.
"Back in the day, it was not that difficult to get some human blood, straight from the vessel."
"It is illegal," Aiden pointed out.
Zane clicked with his tongue and wagged a finger at Aiden.
"Not if said human gives consent."
"I don't understand why a human being would want to give consent for having his blood taken in such a grotesque manner."
Zane stared at Aiden.
"You are the most atypical vampire that I have ever run across," he commented.
"Glad to be of service," Aiden sneered. "Are you drinking or not?"
Zane sighed like an old man.
"I am thirsty. I need some blood for tomorrow."
