Having not met for almost two weeks, Alain had expected Ryan to offer a warmer greeting. Unfortunately, the vampire did not share the same sentiment.
"I... It's the weekend," Alain said in a small voice. "Father, you said that I could come back on the weekends..."
When Ryan gave no response, Alain quickly grabbed the vampire's other arm.
"Father, are you hurt? What happened to you?"
Ryan shook his head.
"I am fine. I am just too tired."
Ryan extricated himself from both Zane and Alain.
"I want to be alone. Leave me, both of you."
The master of the house walked away and headed in the direction of the basement.
Alain wanted to follow, but Zane stopped him.
"Alain, don't."
"Why not?" Alain furrowed his brows at Zane. "He seems to be off today."
"Exactly because he is not himself today that you need to leave him alone. You don't want him to unleash his anger toward you."
Alain swallowed hard. Did Ryan find out something about Alain?
