Chapter 7 - New Home

Alara

After throwing all my things into a suitcase I was led downstairs to Cameron's car. He was leaning against it with a cigarette to his lips, the end of it glowed red before dissolving into grey ash.

"Those will kill you, you know," I said as I threw my suitcase into the back of the car. I then reached for the passenger door and slipped in, still keeping my gaze away from him, just to signal how annoyed I was by this predicament.

"Maybe I want to die," he grinned at me before extinguishing the flame and crushing the stub beneath his foot.

I scoffed, "And leave all this behind, I doubt it."

"Especially my beautiful wife," he mocked as he slid into the drivers seat. Placing one strong hand on the steering wheel and gunning the ignition.

I scowled, "I'm not your wife yet,"

"And I was going to savour these last days of freedom but now I'm stuck babysitting," he sped up pressing his foot against the acceleration. The wind whipped at my hair leading to a mass of brown flowing out of the window.

"Babysitting? I told you I could look after myself."

"Sure." I hated his tone it was so arrogant full of self assured importance like he knew his opinion mattered.

The rest of the drive was relatively quite and when we didn't pull up to the Grayson mansion I was confused, "This isn't your house?"

He laughed at my reaction making me feel incredibly embarrassed, "I think I'd know my own house darling,"

"But-"

"Where we met was my parent's house, you didn't really think I still lived with my parents?"

I gulped down my response knowing fully well I still lived with my parents, and there wasn't much shame in that it was family home so it just felt right being there, and I contributed to rent so it wasn't that I was free loading off of my parents.

I didn't expect him to be chivalrous enough to open the door for me and I was correct. He got out of the car and made his way to the door.

I got out of the car and he didn't even offer to help with my bags not that I needed any help it just would've been nice if he did help. Though who was I kidding why would a man known for his violence ever offer to help.

He didn't even wait for me, he just dug his keys out of his pocket, unlocked the door and walked in. He almost slammed the door shut after him as though he had forgotten about my existence entirely but stopped himself before he did. Still he didn't wait.

I lugged my suitcase and backpack into the house and left it in the opening. I was so tired I just wanted to curl up and sleep. The house wasn't as big as his parents but it did have a sizeable living room and kitchen.

I couldn't see where Cameron had gone so I decided to leave my bags and go explore. I sprinted up the stairs and saw much to my dismay there was only one room. It was of course Cameron's, I shifted the door open and walked in. It was quite a nice room, with black and grey accents, there was a large king sized bed with black nightstands on either side.

There wasn't much personal about the room, no photographs nothing to signify that this room belonged to Cameron.

There was a small couch to the side of the room, it was grey with black pillows and looked comfortable enough.

The wardrobe was quite large reaching completely up to the ceiling with intricate silver handles. Part of me wanted to be nosy and open up the wardrobe but I didn't get the chance before I heard someone else enter the room.

"Making yourself at home already, darling," I heard that cool toned voice and I hated that it made me jump a little.

I spun around to see a smug looking Cameron.

"Just exploring," I justified, sitting down on the couch.

"I can see that." he still leant against the door, perfectly poised and perfectly calm.

"There's only one room," I began to say.

"I know."

"So where am I going to sleep?" I asked a little hesitant for the answer.

"The bed? Where else sweetheart?" He smirked and I knew why, he was acting like it was the most obvious thing in the world despite knowing exactly why I asked.

"With you no way," I scrunched up my nose in disgust.

"Well you don't really have many options," I felt my palms press against the sofa and then I realised that this could do.

"I'll just sleep here, it seems comfortable enough," he gave me a pointed look before shrugging.

"Suit yourself." He then walked over to me and I was prepared for him to get closer, to sit next to me to initiate something but he didn't.

"I'm going to head out feel free to make yourself at home," he went to head out the door.

"Wait where are you going?" I asked almost reaching out to him but stopping myself.

"No where you want to be." he picked up his keys and twirled them between his fingers.

"How would you know?" I quipped, "Maybe I'm up for a little adventure."

He studied me for a moment, probably thinking through whether it would be a good idea to have me tag along.

"Ok fine, but don't say I didn't warn you." He gestured for me to follow him and I did only picking up my phone and slipping it into my pocket.

When we arrived, it seemed like some sort of training ground, the building wasn't too worn down but it was drab and grey. The windows were blacked out and there were many different cars lined outside of it.

"I'm guessing this is where you train?" I said as I exited the car and sprinted after him. He really did walk really fast. Each one of his strides was equal to three of mine which led to me running after him most of the time.

"How very observant of you." He still didn't slow his pace leaving me trailing behind him.

"I simple yes would be ok."

"Nothing's simple with me."

"I figured." I mumbled under my breath.

He paused for the first time and turned to me, "What did you say?"

"Nothing. Nothing at all," he gave me questioning look but didn't pry further for which I was thankful.

When we entered the building we were met with a huge open space, with mats and equipment expertly placed to allow the space to be the most efficient.

There were several people training men and women alike sparring or on treadmills, some had guns clasped firmly in their hands, glinting silver in the fluorescent lighting. Gunshots rang loudly out through the room and I flinched slightly at the sound giving yesterdays events. I was glad Cameron hadn't seen he probably would have ordered me to go home if he had.

A tall guy with shaggy blonde hair that fell in front of his crystal blue eyes sprinted over towards us. He grasped Cameron's hand and then pulled him into the most bro hug I had ever seen. I stood a few inches behind smiling softly, this was probably the most emotion I had seen Cameron portray over the last couple of days.

Once the hug was over, the guy flashed me a lopsided grin, "You must be Alara," he had such a smooth voice it flowed through the air and incited a certain amount of comfort that Cameron's lacked.

"Yes, Hi..." I waited for him to tell me his name.

"The names Leo, pleasure to meet you," he reached a hand out and I thought it was for a handshake but he pulled me into a side hug that I was not prepared for.

When he felt me tense, he immediately let go, "Sorry about that." His statement was followed by a sheepish grin.

Cameron merely laughed at my reaction, "I think she only likes my hugs,"

I scowled at him, "We haven't even hugged properly,"

"Oh really, how about a little reminder," He took a step forward and grasped my hand twirling me around as he had done the day before, with my back pressed against his chest and my heart racing. He leaned his head down pressing his chin against my shoulder and whispering softly into my ear.

"Remember now?" his breath tickled the shell of my ear and whilst mine got caught in the back of my throat.

I nodded slightly, "Yes."

All the while Leo watched us with a broad smile on his face.

"You two are so cute," I heard another voice comment as a girl just a little shorter than me and ran up to Leo. She hugged him from behind resting her chin on his shoulder and pressing a kiss to his cheek.

"Hi I'm Mel, Leo's girlfriend"

Cameron had still yet to let me go, so I took the opportunity of a new person to introduce myself too as the perfect excuse to wriggle out of his grasp.

"Alara it's so nice to meet you," I responded as she too pulled me into a firm hug.

"I've never seen Cameron this lovey dovey with a girl you must be real special," she laughed at Cameron's scowl.

"You of all people Mel should know I am anything but lovey dovey," the words felt so alien coming from his mouth that it made me laugh out loud.

His gaze snapped to mine, a brow raised, "What's so funny Alara?"

"You saying lovey dovey is the funniest thing I've heard all day," I gave him a wide eyed smile, "Please say it again."

His scowl grew deeper as her bit out, "No."

"Now let's see what you're made of Alara."
