Chapter 11 - Just the Right Thing

It took Noelle a couple of minutes before she could finally get her hands on her phone. It was buried deep under those files which were yet to be checked by her. Most of those files were about the upcoming event which was to be held at their main hotel in London. It was important that she made sure there was no error in these files, or they would have to suffer a great loss.

But at the moment, Noelle could care less about the whole thing. There was only one thing on her mind. It was to share her burden with the only person who had truly ever loved her, her mother.

She hurriedly scrolled through her phone after unlocking the screen. Her thumbs only stopped moving over the screen for the briefest of seconds when she saw the gallery icon popping up in her view. Right after she clicked on it, she began to scroll through the albums in order to look for the one folder which had nothing but her mother's pictures in it. The rest of the folders were more or less likely filled either with pictures of nature, animals, or her family.

After she was able to locate the folder which was named using nothing but a heart emoji, she pressed her thumb over it and let her eyes roam over the pictures. She opened the first image in the folder which also happened to be her favorite one, and let her eyes gaze at her mother's smiling face to her heart's content.

"I miss you, Mom, and I know you miss me too." She mumbled softly under her breath as she stared at the picture which was now occupying her phone's screen.

"You must be wondering why I opened up your picture today, right? Well, what else could it be other than your daughter messing up things again?" Noelle muttered as her lips broke into a sad smile.

It was nothing new for Noelle to talk to her mother's picture. Every time she got into a problem, her mother was the first to know. It had always been like this since the lady passed away after Noelle's thirteenth birthday.

Noelle knew she would never get an answer in response, but she never looked for it. It was the relief she would get after talking to her mother. Somehow, every time she would end up with an idea, or a solution, as soon as she finished sharing her problems. Hence, it had become sacred for the young lady to go through the process every time she messed things up.

She believed that it was her mother's way of letting her know that she was watching over her, and that she would continue to do so until the end of time.

"You must be wondering what it is this time?" She mumbled as she rolled on her bed, ending up resting on her flat stomach. Her elbows were resting on the spring mattress, holding the phone up and close to her face.

"You will be shocked to know that this time it has a boy in the center, or maybe he is sitting over it, just like a cherry on top of a cake piece. And, your amazing daughter is like the cream filling in between layers of cake." She continued with her weird analogy. "I don't have to tell you about the layers of sponge. I am sure you can figure out who those two layers are."

She took a brief pause and heaved out a long sigh as she thought about her life. "I was trying to be nice to the guy, but I believe I messed it up. I wanted to tease him only a little, but I think I overdid it, again."

Noelle didn't have much experience when it came to talking to boys, she was someone who would rather keep her mouth shut than trying to entertain someone of the opposite gender. There were two reasons behind it.

One, she didn't get to interact much with them which made it not so easy for her to converse with them more than it was required. Second, she would always end up messing things up if she ever wanted to talk more than it was required, sending them scurrying away from herself.

She had been made fun of for this at more than one occasion. It was also the reason why she didn't like to attend those fancy events along with her sisters. Not that they gave her any chance to do it, but Noelle never minded it for she herself didn't want to go with them in the first place.

"I accidentally ran into him earlier when I went downstairs to have my lunch." She spoke softly before correcting herself. "It was actually the other way around, but he couldn't be blamed for it. He was just being nice, and trying to save me from getting hit by Priscilla's flying sandal."

She rolled over once again, making sure not to bury any of the files under her. "He came upstairs earlier just to tell me how sorry he was for knocking me down to the ground, and instead of saying it is okay, I put a condition forward. You see, Mom, I wanted to get to know him. I still do, but I have no idea how to do it. So, my condition involved him arranging a small tour for me. I asked him to accompany me."

Now that she was saying it out loud, it sounded more than just foolish to her own ears. It was only good until it was a piece of her mind, nothing more than an idea. She was cursing herself for even proposing it to him. How insensitive was it of her to put his job on line like that?

"Mom, can you please help me? I will try to bother you less with my silly mistakes from now on." Noelle continued with her one sided conversation, hoping that it would help her like always.

She bit down her lower lip as hard as she could as her deep brown eyes stared at the lit up screen of her phone. Seconds ticked by without getting any results, yet she kept her eyes glued to the screen. Slowly, the glint of her eyes returned as her rosy pink lips curled up in a smile so bright which could dampen the morning glow of sunrise.

"Thank you so much, Mom." She pressed a loud smooch on her phone's screen, thanking her mother for her help once again. "I know just the right thing to fix this up." She mumbled to herself once again as she jumped on her feet.
