Chapter |7|
Christian Lonsdale~
I resisted the urge to sigh as I loaded my gun. The thought of a particular petite brunette clouded my head.
I raised a brow as I reminisced over her words, her question seemed honest and I answered her honestly too. I am scared of her. I am scared of the things she would do to me if I let myself cave in.
She isn't scared of me, I can see it in her fucking pretty pink eyes. She looks like she wants me to be her fucking friend.
I don't want to be her friend.
"We're talking about going down to Castillo Bychkov's main drug lair. Greg can't go in there alone. Not even undercover, he's gonna get blown." Ruth said and the other guys shook their heads in agreement.
"Greg has always been weird, you don't have to worry—"
I thrust the gun down his throat before he could say another word. Alex sighed wistfully as if he knew this was coming.
"Say one more word under Greg's name and I swear I'll make it fresh and hot," I said while taking the safety off. "Or just keep quiet and allow me to lay out the fucking plan."
Theo nodded profusely and I nodded in mock appreciation.
I took the gun out and cleaned it with his suit before dropping it on the large, circular glass table in front of me while Vera looked at me from across the table like she wanted to hand me my ass.
"Greg is the best we have–"
"I feel insulted." Xander intercepted with a mumble, twirling a knife around his finger.
"–so we can't send him in there alone. I'm sure Bychkov won't be anywhere near his supplies so the security won't be as much as it should be. Greg will lead the first troupe once the shipments land." I continued.
"But are we sure about Castillo Bychkov? That bitch is unpredictable, he might be there again." Gerard, one of my men said.
"He won't be there." I clarified. "Besides, our assignment is not the leader, Gerard, it's the shipment first. Alexander leads the defense troupe, you surround Greg in and out." I tell him and he nods.
"Then what about the backup team? Vera can't go y'know?" Theo piped up and for once in his life, he wasn't being stupid.
I looked at Vera and she stared back at me. Of course, I wasn't going to send her in there while she was carrying my brother's child.
Fucker.
"Of course, the backup team. It will be led by you Theodore and you'll work with Alexander." I sighed slumping into my seat.
"Jesus." Xander groaned under his breath.
"Get ready, the mission is in two days."
"You're going in last?" Vera asked packing the scattered files on the table.
I stood up and tucked my gun safely in my waistband.
"I go in first. I always do." I said blankly before getting up from my chair and walking out.
I always risk my fucking life first, it's just. . .the right thing to do.
Sometimes it messes up with my mind why I risk myself for these motherfuckers. But seeing them alive after a certain mission or assignment makes me feel at rest.
But then again, I don't think I should feel anything for them.
"Chris! Bootylicious sexy daddy! Wait up, man!" Xander called behind me making me roll my eyes and continue walking.
He's weird.
"I don't want to stop and have a chat with you, Alexander. Go away."
"C'mon, I got something to tell you." He said jogging up to me. "It's about the girl, Bay-"
I dug my heels to the ground and spun around so quickly that he had to stop himself from saying her name.
Her beautiful na—
Wait. Fuck no. Am I finally going crazy?
"What?" I asked blankly at Xander who had a shit-eating smirk on his face.
"I thought you didn't want to stop." He teased.
I gave him a blank grin and lazily took out my gun and settled it at the base of his cock making his face ashen instantly.
"I don't want to stop now," I stated trailing the gun down to his balls.
He cleared his throat and took a step back.
"Her name is Baybi Abigail Todaro. 21. Brown hair. Pinkish-grey eyes. 5 foot 2 inches. Killed one foster parent. She works at the bakery shop Sugar ñ Spice and lives alone in an apartment at the end of the street near the shop. She had developed a fear of sound or loud noises; Phonophobia." He sputtered in an uncomfortably calm manner.
"Please put the gun away." He added.
My brows furrowed slightly as I tucked the gun back into my waistband.
"Foster parent?" I asked, slightly confused.
"Well, apparently she killed one of them. Self-defense." He gulped still recovering from his baffled state.
"Why? What happened?" I asked walking towards my gym.
"The file had only those minuscule information, nothing else." He said, trailing behind me.
"You're an assassin Xander, you should bring me a whole book about her." I sighed.
"I am a hunter, Christian. You are an assassin." Xander explained what didn't make sense at all.
"And it looks like she has a friend too." He added drawing my attention back to him again.
"Doesn't everyone have friends?" I deadpanned eyeing his figure up and down while he gave me a cheeky grin.
"You know you love me." He cooed and I rolled my eyes for the umpteenth time today. "But the thing is she has been alone for almost two years now, she has no friends because she doesn't socialize with people and some friends might be too loud for her. But a girl knocked out Brad, one of the two bodyguards you wanted for her, she knocked him out cold."
I stopped and made a complete U-turn and faced Alexander.
"A girl?" I asked, amused. "Knocked out Bradley?"
"Yeah, the description was a 5'5 kid with rainbow-dyed hair, grey eyes, and slightly pale skin. I couldn't find anything about her."
I hummed and took off my suit handing it to one of my bodyguards, leaving myself in a black turtle neck.
"Contact Grey, tell him about the mission, and then train your fucking troupe," I ordered Alexander and he nodded twice.
I turned back and opened the doors to my gym. The boxing bag that was bought for me today was ready in the middle of the room and as I closed the doors behind me, I heard Xander's low voice say;
"So, so crazy."
Yeah, I know.
~*~
I ran my fingers through my wet hair as I came down the stairs. It was currently midnight and I just took a bath after clearing up my paths for the work I have in 7 hours.
I head over to my kitchen and opened my fridge and took out a jug filled with water. I had enough patience to take out a glass and fill it before gulping it down.
The house sounded quiet and calm unlike in the daytime when everyone has something to say. I fill the glass halfway again and chug it down before placing it on the counter. I looked into oblivion as my palms rested on the cold marble I let a few thoughts run through my head.
I have a lot going on but I'm not ready to acknowledge it. It's not even something that I should be surprised by, that my life is fucked up. I've lost almost everything in less than six months, I've lost a lot. I'm not a good guy, but fuck me if I let that angel get involved in my mess.
Involved with me.
But how can someone be so hypnotizing yet burning hot, like poison going down a parched throat?
I should probably let her live her life, I shouldn't give in, and I shouldn't fuck up.
My phone buzzed twice inside the pocket of my shorts making me snap out of my thoughts as I lazily took it out. The expression on my face remained neutral as my eyes skimmed the contents of the message from an unknown number.
Unknown: The lassie is a gem, so delicate, so unknowing y. I'm having second thoughts, about whether to have her in my bed or at the end of my gun. How are you gonna save this one? An innocent question, not a threat.
I wasn't even surprised that Castillo had already found out. I knew he had his men lurking in the shadows, but they know that they were risking their lives for doing that.
"Fuck me." I chuckled darkly running my hand through my curls again.
But I've already fucked up, I fucked up the moment I set foot into that bakery.
Again, fuck me.
