The village that Lyle and Nicholas had gone to was not really a regular village. From the person that Nicholas had captured and turned, they were able to find out that the village was in fact a front, the people living there were all spies and assassins working for the clan.
If anyone suspicious appeared, they would notify the clan.
The stronghold that the villagers told Lyle and Nicholas about was a fake.
There was a stronghold amongst the mountains, that was true, and if they followed the path that the villagers had mentioned when not knowing that Lyle and Nicholas were nearby, they would find it.
Of course, that was all a trap, one that the clan and the villagers had placed a long time ago and used to capture those who seemed too interested in what was going on around here.
