Scrolls always have some remnants of the magic power that was imbued in them after being used, which makes it possible for people to identify what magic spell was imbued in one.
Lyle of course knew this, and most assassins did, which is why they will make sure to take back some pieces after using the scroll in order to give the report.
Lyle was slightly different, however. He not only picked up the pieces of scrolls he personally used, but pieces of scrolls others had used as well. The clone scroll, for one, was a scroll that a knight had used about 3 months ago back when he was running away from Lyle.
Unaware that Lyle was right above him in a forest that was near his mansion, the knight used the scroll order to create a copy that would run in a different direction and hopefully confuse Lyle.
