Vincent and Cecil barely had any time to react. When they finally gathered their senses, Vincent was the first of them to rise to his feet. He too wanted to go and check on Safira.
"Oh no you don't," Cecil stood in his way as she readjusted his collar.
"You know better than I do that you're getting on in age and the cold up there does more harm than good to you. You're better off leaving this to the young ones. They can handle themselves."
"But-"
"No buts," she warned, "Just let them be. She'll be alright."
Vincent narrowed his eyes at his mate. He'd gotten to know her well enough over the years they had spent together. He knew her ambitions better than anyone. Safira's arrival had stirred jealousy in her.
He knew the other reason why she didn't want him to do it. Frost Freeze was dangerous and no wolf had ever successfully survived it in Safira's condition for more than two days. Her fate might already be sealed.
