This chapter will be told from Anna's point of view. She is the main character for now.
I walk with a smile on my face, knowing that Souta will support me if I find some people who are willing to join me. I just need to find kind people! I want to know, I want to see it for myself, if those kids survived.
I remember the time when the horde broke into our base. I did my best to rescue anyone I could, killing those damn zombies. "Retreat! Retreat! Get in the truck with the soldiers!" I keep shouting and leading the children and civilians to the truck. I saw them escape the base with my own eyes.
I can only hope that they are still alive out there, somewhere. I can only pray for their safety.
"Hey! Anna! Get in the helicopter! We're leaving!"
"I can't leave these innocent people behind!!"
"tch, stop being a fucking hero and get inside." My comrades grab me. "Stop! Let me fucking go! I will save these people!" She pushes me. She is Elsa, my best friend. "Look at your fucking surroundings!! Is this place still savable to you!? Our comrades sacrificed themselves to fucking let us escape! Are you gonna let their sacrifices go to waste!?" Her words hurt me. I pity these people, but what she says is true.
"Okay… I'm sorry." I want to cry, but I can't. This isn't the right time to cry. "It's okay, I'm sorry I shouted—" Before she can finish her sentence, she pushes me towards the helicopter. The evolved zombie behind me bites Elsa on her neck! "NOO!!!!!" My other comrades in the helicopter force me inside. "No! Get away from me! Get off me!!! Elsa! Elsa!!!!!" I shout, but my voice can't reach her. She looks at me and says, "Live on, for me." She smiles.
The helicopter flies up, leaving my best friend behind. I see her, turning into a zombie, and eating people. I can't even kill her to let her rest in peace.
I cry and cry, seeing the once peaceful base now turned into hell. We fly away when wild gunshots hit us. We think it's nothing, but we don't know that it hit our gas tank, leaking gas out of the helicopter.
We escape the military base. We think we are safe, but then the pilot turns. "Shit!! Kill him!" One of my comrades says and quickly shoots the pilot. But he bites the co-pilot. Panic erupts in the helicopter. We do our best to control it, but the gas tank runs out. Without the pilot, and with us panicking, the helicopter bound to crash.
---
I accept my fate, to die. But that's when I meet him, Souta. A young man who is leading these survivors, I don't know what's special about him but he managed to survive the horde that even we could not!
It was a good sight to see, those monsters that killed my comrades, friends and family, die by his leadership. It was a good choice to join forces with him.
I am now here, on the front line of the wall, shouting, "Who would like to join me in an expedition! Any person will do!" I keep shouting, hoping to find some volunteers. Some people seem interested and ask me, "Oh? Where are you going?" But as soon as I say the metropolis, "I plan to go to the metropolis!" I even say it with a smile, but they all refuse.
