We got back to the mansion, and unloaded our trucks. We had a lot of food, water, and supplies, and we were happy with our loot. We settled down at the dinner table, and enjoyed a hearty meal.
"It seems there's nothing left worth looting in this town," I remarked, looking at the map. "We've cleared most of the places, and we've killed most of the zombies."
Amy chimed in, "So where should we go next?"
I paused, considering the question. "Hmm... maybe we should target another town, but before that, we should focus on training ourselves," I replied. "We need to improve our skills, and our strength. We need to be ready for anything."
Amy nodded in agreement. "Sure, that sounds like a good plan," she said. "We have enough supplies to last us for a while, and we have a lot of equipment to train with."
I turned my attention to Jenny and Andy. They were still new to this after all, and they had a lot to learn.
"Your training is going to be tougher than before," I warned them. "You have to work hard, and follow my instructions. Be brave, and smart. Okay?"
They both nodded, ready to face the challenges ahead. They had shown potential, and courage. They had proven themselves, and earned my trust.
I smiled, and said, "Good. Then let's get started. Tomorrow, we begin our training."
Morning came, and I decided to change our training routine. Instead of jogging for stamina, we would cut down some trees and use them to reinforce our walls. We still had a lot of work to do to make our base more secure, and we didn't have enough people to do it all. I have lots of plans but we lack man power, but having too many will cause our food supplies too drop drastically.
That's also the reason why I didn't forced them to join us. Also, cutting trees would also help us build up our strength and endurance, which was essential for survival in this apocalypse.
I explained my plan to the others, and they agreed. We grabbed our axes and headed outside. The trees here were thick and sturdy, and it took us a lot of effort to chop them down. We couldn't use a chainsaw, as it would make too much noise and attract unwanted attention from zombies and other survivors. We had to rely on our own muscles and skills.
It took us three hours to fell one fcking tree, we are fcking exhausted it takes too much energy just to cut down one tree! We dragged the logs back to our base and started to nail them to the existing walls, making them thicker and stronger. We also used the time to practice our swinging our melee weapons here.
We continued our training in the afternoon, but we focused on shooting skills instead. It was too hot to do any physical work, and we needed to conserve our energy. We practiced our combat skills, formation, stances, and other useful techniques that we had learned from the internet before it went offline. We had downloaded thousands of useful tips, tricks, and books for our survival, and we studied them whenever we had the chance.
This was how we trained ourselves every day, hoping to survive and thrive in this harsh new world. I was the leader of this group, and I felt responsible for their lives. I had to make sure we were prepared for anything.
Weeks turned into months, and our progress was evident. Food was no longer a pressing concern, as their looting skills improved.
We used the resources we had around us to reinforce our cement wall in the mansion. We can't keep relying on that can we? We used the cut down logs that we cut in the forest, which we arranged vertically along the base of the wall, interlocking them for stability. This created a sturdy log barrier that would slow down any zombies trying to break through.
We also scavenged some metal sheets from the broken cars on the main road and used them to cover any weak points in the cement wall. We also used the glass shards from the car windows to make the top of the wall more sharp and dangerous, so that no one could climb over it easily. We also repurposed some tires filled with dirt to create another layer of defense around the wall.
We also visited the farm nearby and gathered some wooden planks and fencing materials. We used them to construct some improvised barriers and enhance the fortification of the wall.
By combining these elements, we created a multifaceted defense that leveraged the strength of logs, the durability of car materials, and the versatility of farm resources to fortify the cement wall effectively.
But we didn't stop there. We also made some spiked barricades by embedding sharpened wooden stakes from the mountains into the ground in front of the wall. This would make it difficult for zombies and humans to approach the wall without getting impaled. We also stacked some more tires filled with dirt to create additional barricades, extending our base outside, for the animals so that it won't smell as it is a bit near the mansion.
We also set up a communication system using some improvised devices from the farm, such as bells or horns. We attached them to some wires and ropes and ran them along the wall. If anyone saw or heard anything suspicious, they could pull the wire or rope and alert the rest of us. This way, we could be ready for any attack or danger.
This was how we reinforced our cement wall, using our creativity and resourcefulness. I was proud of what we had done, and I hoped it would keep us safe and secure. I had to make sure we were prepared for anything.
While our main character was busy with training and fortifying his base, the world outside was changing rapidly. Let's go back to a week after the apocalypse began, inside the presidential palace:
The military was doing its best to protect the palace, where the president and other high-ranking officials were hiding. However, millions of zombies were swarming the place, and no amount of tanks, machine guns, heavy artillery, or other powerful weapons could stop them.
The situation was hopeless, and the military had no choice but to abandon the palace. They flew away in helicopters, leaving behind thousands of soldiers who had sacrificed themselves for nothing. They could only watch as their comrades turned into zombies, and they couldn't even kill them to free them from the curse.
The government and the military set up a base on a large island, where there were no zombies. On that island, people with status, wealth, or connections had gathered to seek refuge. They hoped to rebuild their society and fight back against the zombies.
Three days after they established the base, the president declared an all-out war on the zombies. He ordered the scientists and experts to work on a vaccine, while the soldiers prepared for the counterattack. They had many experts from different fields, such as virology, immunology, epidemiology, neuroscience, biochemistry, pathology, behavioral science, and so on. They wanted to understand the zombies and find a way to cure them.
They had some basic knowledge about the zombies from the movies and experiments they had done. They knew that the zombies' weakness was the head, and that they couldn't swim or climb. They also knew that they relied only on their instincts, and that they were fast, agile, and flexible. They wouldn't die unless their brain was destroyed.
The government thought they could save the country, if not the world. But they didn't want to use the nukes, as they feared the consequences. They established many bases around the country, creating a hope for humanity.
But that hope was soon shattered, when they made a fatal mistake. While conducting experiments on the zombies, they developed a vaccine after a week. They injected it into a living zombie, but it died. They thought they had succeeded, but they didn't realize that the vaccine had a side effect.
They buried the zombie, thinking it was humane. But that night, the zombie came back to life. It was different from before. It was much faster and stronger, and it could run as fast as the fastest human. It was also more agile and flexible, and it had a new ability. It could infect others with its bite, and turn them into the same kind of zombie.
This new variant of zombie quickly spread on the island, killing most of the soldiers and civilians. It even bit the president and other high-ranking officers, and turned them into zombies. The government was terrified that it would spread to the world, so they decided to destroy the whole island with a bomb. But they didn't know that one of their soldiers had been bitten and had hidden it from them.
The government collapsed, and the military was left on its own. All the higher-ranking officers were dead, and there was no one to lead them. There was no hope, but only despair. The soldier who had been bitten turned into a zombie on the plane, and infected everyone else. The plane crashed on the mainland, and some of the zombies survived. They started to spread the virus to the rest of the country, making the apocalypse even worse.
