Clara again found herself tongue-tied when her eyes caught the sight of Adrian's delightful smile. Her heartbeat accelerated like a speeding car and she forgot to blink.
Adrian's smile came like a breath of fresh air and she found herself getting drawn into it. She remembered how happy she would feel, whenever he lifted his lip plastering his face with a faint smile. Even if it lasted for a second she felt her heart dance with happiness.
"You smiled" she muttered absentmindedly as she forgot to take her eyes off him.
The smile on Adrian's face faltered listening to her words and he looked up, his eyes gazing at her with astonishment. The second their eyes met sparks flew between them and he forgot to breathe.
The way her eyes admired him without any filter made his heart sway. Time seemed to have frozen for him as he suddenly found himself getting hypnotized by her angelic face.
Those brown eyes, that he always saw crying in his dreams were admiring him. Those lips that would tremble as she kept crying and cursing him were faintly smiling watching with amazement.
Even after four years, his heart still found its way to her innocence.' Why can't we be like this.... forever' he thought to himself when a sudden knock on the door broke their stare.
"Cough!... why is it so hot" Clara averted her gaze from Adrian and started fanning her fan with her hands looking around.
Adrian who too snapped out of the trance cleared his throat before he turned his eyes to the door and said," Yes"
The manager of the restaurant walked in with a bright smile lingering on his face and he approached them stopping in front of their table.
"Mr. Emerson. What would you like to have for breakfast" the manager asked politely.
Clara lowered her face trying to hide the blush slowly sneaked to look at Adrian who ordered the food with his straight face and soon the manager walked out.
Once the door shut, the temperature inside the room suddenly turned awkward for them.
Loosening his tie a little, Adrian tried to ease himself. It had been quite a long time since he felt this kind of feeling rushing through his heart. While his thought was processing recalling that pristine moment, his eyes fell on Clara who didn't even look at him.
'Is she going to behave indifferently now' he thought and his lips twitch in annoyance.
He remembered her being too vocal about her feelings and would never try to hide them in front of him.
"The food will be served anytime," he said trying to break the tranquility that enveloped both of them.
"Hmm" came her quick reply and he arched his brow.
Why was acting strange? It wasn't like they hadn't been in a situation like this before. They even went on doing many more things than this eye-staring game.
Letting out a disappointed chuckle Adrian turned his eyes from her. Soon breakfast was served and Clara could only gape at the table filled with all of her favorites.
"Dig in" She heard his deep authoritative voice and watched him taking the first bite.
She wasn't expecting him to still remember the food she ate whenever they came here in person. It felt like just yesterday, they both had their breakfast together, feeding and loving each other, and just like that everything faded along with him.
She gasped when those thoughts crossed her mind and her eyes fluttered at the sensing of tears that tried to form in her eyes.
Clara quickly concealed the emotions that tried to surge up quickly pushing them in the back of her head and began eating unaware of the eyes that kept glancing at her occasionally.
Adrian found himself relaxing when he watched her eat the food. He thought just like last night, she would end up rejecting it. But he was glad that she didn't repeat the same and quietly ate everything making his heart feel at ease.
Once they were done finishing with the breakfast, both left for Skylar Corps. Reaching his car Clara briskly hopped into the front seat and buckled the seat beat with her eye looking ahead.
She didn't want to repeat the same mistake, she did in her absent state before they came here.
Adrian watched her jump into the car, and stop in his tracks before he looked at Anthony who tried to suppress his smile. This was the second time, he had seen him smile at him and it was all because of this weird girl.
Glaring at her for some time, Adrian turned away and stepped into the car and soon they drove away.
Reaching in front of the main building, Anthony quickly dashed to open the door for Adrian and he climbed down, heading straight inside the building.
Clara was now getting used to Adrian's long strode and she ran behind him as if she was running on a treadmill machine, that only kept increasing its speed with time.
Standing in front of the private elevator, the door slid open and they both stepped inside with the door closing behind them.
Clara took the corner spot a few distances away from where Adrian stood and kept her eyes ahead on the Digi screen watching the numbers run down as they climbed up.
Adrian's mood hadn't been good after she avoided sitting with him earlier and kept sulking throughout their drive to the company. But now with her again maintaining a distance as if being closer to him would dirt her made him blood in anger and the next second he pinned her against the elevator wall.
"Ah..." stunned to find herself getting caged between the wall and Adrian, Clara gaped with her eyes shockingly staring at him.
"W-What are you doing?" she asked composing herself and her surprised face got replaced by anger.
"I should be the one to ask you this. What are you doing Clara?" Adrian was done with her constant ways of keeping away from him and it irked him to the point where he lost his cool.
Clara's eyes softened at his words and the more she saw him a gleam of the hurt crossed through his eyes.
"W-What are you talking a-about" stuttering on her words, she tried to avoid his penetrating gaze. She felt her heart would melt any second if she kept on looking at him.
What had gotten into him all of a sudden, she thought.
Adrian was losing his patience watching her act clueless. If he had not been observing her then he would've just ignored her without sparing a second glance, but he couldn't.
She never for once, talked about the past being rather behaved as if she didn't know him at all and he was just her boss and nothing more.
