"She had already confessed to her crime, but we need to wait for her to recover before taking her into custody," the officer told Vincent before walking away.
Vincent took a deep breath, pulled the door open, and went inside.
He spotted Cassandra laying on the sickbed with a nurse beside her before she graciously smiled and went.
Cassandra's eyes were closed, but as soon as she felt him sit in the chair next to her, they gently opened.
"You should have let me die," she whispered faintly, without looking at him once.
Her eyes were expressionless as she stared at the white ceiling above.
Vincent couldn't understand what was going through his mother's brain. But the manner she delivered those words indicated that she regretted being saved.
"I'm not heartless, Mom. I may have been selfish at times, but I am not heartless to see my mother die in front of my eyes." His remarks elicited strong emotions in her, resulting in tears.
