Clara's eyes turned cold as she clutched her palm into a fist trying to suppress the anger that was building up within her heart. The words he said pierced like an arrow into her heart, bringing back all the memories of her past.
She could feel the lump forming in her throat fighting it back to gulp down and letting this moment pass like it was nothing. Taking a few deep breaths she tried to calm herself, ignoring the words he just spilled, and slowly turned around to face him.
Adrian on the other hand immediately regretted his words, but he was too adamant to accept his defeat and kept his face stern.
"You don't have to worry for a mere employee like me," she said and slowly raised her eyes to meet his cold one. She could tell that he didn't regret speaking those hurtful words to her and her heart swelled in pain.
'He wasn't that Adrian' she thought to herself and forced a smile but it didn't reach her eyes and continued.
" Even if I fall, it should concern you... boss" she stretched the last word reminding him that their relationship was just of boss and employee and there was no need for him to worry about her.
Adrian's lips twitched at her remark. She was again pushing his button purposely drawing a line between them.
Pinching the bridge of his nose, he tried to calm himself but her words were enough to drive him to the edge. Slamming his hand, he dashed toward her and pinned her against the shelf.
His eyes intensely stared at her and his lips quivered as he tried to fight back his aggression. "What did you say?" his deep cold voice fanned her face.
Clara gaped at Adrian who had again lost his cool, but she wasn't to be blamed. It was he who provoked her by taunting her character. But when she stated the truth, he was again upset with her.
"Wasn't it the truth? We are mere bosses and employees Mr. Emerson" she said keeping a straight face. Her eyes penetrated his intense gaze that didn't falter even for a second.
She looked at him like a person who had nothing to do with her life and should maintain a distance from her.
"You shouldn't be worrying for a mere assistant like m-... Umm..." Her words died halfway when Adrian sealed her lips shutting her mouth the next instant.
Clara was caught off guard when she felt his lips touch hers and everything from the past came rushing through her mind and she closed her eyes.
The same feeling she felt when she had her first time with him, letting her guard down and submitting herself to his mercy. He was her first kiss.
She remembered how he gently nibbled her lips making her used to it and then invaded her mouth, exploring and tasting it like a dessert.
Suddenly her body began to fall weak when she felt him suck her lips as if he was asking her permission to explore her once again. But then, she remembered how he left her and never returned and she snapped out of the fantasy, she was drowning herself in.
Using all of her strength, she pushed him. Her entire body was trembling, feeling the disgust of his touch on her skin. Rubbing her lips, she tried to clean the saliva that lingered on them.
Adrian stumbled back as he slowly returned to his senses. Lifting his eyes at her, he saw her rubbing her skin as if she felt dirty by his touch. The way she kept wiping her lips made him regret his actions.
"I-I'm s-sorry" he tried to reach his hand to touch her but she flinched.
" No.. don't come near me" her voice cracked and her bloodshot eyes threw daggers at him.
The indifferent look in her eyes stabbed his heart and he dropped his hand in defeat. He didn't know what took over his mind, but when she looked at him like, he was a stranger and didn't hold any stand in her life, he lost it.
Adrian couldn't react because the way her eyes accuse him made him retreat and watched her with hurt.
"Do my touch disgust you Clara?" he asked as his voice cracked.
He wanted to know the reason why never for once had she confronted him about the past and kept maintaining a distance as if he was an unknown person whom she met just two days ago.
He waited for her to come and apologize to him but all she did was act like she was just a mere assistant to him.
Clara was shocked to see the hurt in his eyes and her anger dissipated a little. Yes, his touch disgusted her because it reminded her of the passionate night they had, and the very next day he left her.
She trusted him with her innocence but he tainted her. He told her that he loved her but the time to stand for each other arrived, he turned his back on her and left without a word.
She was broken by his unfaithfulness and it took her years to stand back on her feet. And now, she wouldn't let him walk on her just like he did back then. Everything had changed, she had changed. She was someone he could fool with that fake act.
The little bit of sympathy that aroused in her heart died and her eyes again turned cold and she said," Yes, your touch disgusts me, Adrian. It reminds me of my stupidity in trusting you and giving you the right to break my soul in pieces" her eyes only held hate as she spoke poison.
Adrian felt his breath get stuck in his lungs and he took a step back looking at her hateful eyes that accused him of hurting her. But why... why did she blame him when she was the one who cheated on him?
Everything around him started to spin and he found it hard to stand on his ground. He couldn't look at her anymore because it made him feel suffocated.
Her eyes spoke a thousand emotions and everything felt so real that he felt like walking away from there. It reminded him of the time when he first felt helpless and that was the day when his mother left him. The pain she carried in her eyes matched the one in Clara's orbs.
He didn't want to think anymore, he just wanted to run and that's what he did. Without sparing another glance at her he dashed out of the cabin and walked away from there.
