Kai had always dreamed of being a professional football player, but he had never been sure if he had what it took to make it to the top. He had always been plagued by self-doubt and worries about his abilities, and it seemed like every time he took to the field, his fears only grew stronger.
But as the match wore on and Kai settled into his role as a midfielder, something began to shift within him. He started to feel a new sense of confidence and purpose, as if he had finally found his place on the field and in the world.
With each passing minute, Kai's doubts began to fade away, replaced by a growing sense of determination and drive. He knew that if he wanted to pursue his dreams of being a professional football player, he would have to make sacrifices and work harder than ever before.
And so, he threw himself into the game, chasing down loose balls, making tackles and interceptions, and pushing forward to create chances for his teammates. He was relentless in his pursuit of the ball, never giving up even when the odds seemed stacked against him.
As the game wore on, Kai's team found themselves under intense pressure from their opponents, who were launching wave after wave of attacks against their defenses. The opposition forwards were constantly on the move, probing for gaps and weaknesses in the backline.
Kai and his teammates were forced to retreat deeper into their own half, desperately trying to hold their ground and repel the constant onslaught. But no matter how hard they tried, they couldn't seem to regain control of the game. Kai himself was in the midst of all the issues, and despite his best attempts to helping his teammates regain control and flow of the match, his efforts were nothing but for naught.
The opposition continued to push forward relentlessly, their players darting in and out of the spaces between defenders and launching shot after shot towards the goal. Kai's team was constantly on the back foot, struggling to regain possession and mount a counter-attack of their own. Kai himself dedicated his heart and soul into creating that one clinical counter-attack that would relieve the pressure, but it seemed Amine (Kai's Team's Defensive Midfielder) just couldn't find the composed and delicate pass to him.
As the minutes ticked away, the pressure on Kai's team only intensified. The opposition seemed to be getting stronger and stronger with each passing minute, and it was clear that they were not going to let up until they had found a way through the defenses. Zagadou and the Hernandez brothers are doing everything in their might to defend their goal, but it seemed only inevitable for them to concede first.
His worst fears turned into reality.
Kai's team was eventually breached, and the opposition scored a crucial goal that put them in the lead. Kai and his teammates were devastated, but they knew that they couldn't give up now. They had to keep fighting until the final whistle, even if the odds were against them.
Kai eyed Nkunku with a new look, a fire lit within him as something just clicked. He was ready, he was ready to pursue the path of a footballer, he must never look back at what he lost along the way, he couldn't bear to look back.
The team dug deep and rallied together, determined to make a comeback and salvage something from the game. It was a grueling battle, with both sides giving everything they had. Kai himself was trying to relinquish that link, his unique understanding and chemistry that he developed with Nkunku. Their interchanging positional play was their team's offensive weapon, a blade pierced the shield.
But something just wasn't working. No matter if it was Amine struggling to string the pass to them, or their teammates have a different mentality on the pitch, it was as though the team was in two minds. Every player had a different idea in their head, a different method they wanted to attempt to get a goal.
Kai had always been a unique midfielder, with a natural ability to find space and create opportunities for his team. Even more impressive was his constant awareness of his surroundings, as if he has eyes at the back of his head that allowed him to have 24hour surveillance of everyone. But in this game, he found himself increasingly frustrated by his teammates' inability to find him on the pitch. Passes went astray, balls were intercepted, and Kai was left feeling increasingly isolated and cut off from the game.
As the frustration mounted, Kai began to lose his cool. Time was running out, time that he didn't have compared to his teammates. He messed his hair bewilderedly, spiralling further and further down a bottomless pit-hole of exasperation and desperation. At this rate, the 0–1 scoreline will be the end result.
But as he calmed down and took stock of the situation, Kai began to realize that he had been approaching the game all wrong. He had been so focused on his own performance and his own desire to make an impact that he had lost sight of what was really important – the team. It didn't matter if he delivered an assist or even score a goal, so long as the team lost, he had failed. A useless statistic would do nothing if they had lost. Nothing.
He gritted his teeth. If the ball can't find him... He will go after the ball!
And so, Kai made a conscious decision to change his approach. He dropped deeper, slowly and surely he approached the location where his teammates can easily find him. It was no longer about delivering a crucial assist or creating goal-scoring chances, it was helping his teammates to control the ball. Where he could use his skills and knowledge of the game to help his team in a new way.
"Amine! Amine! Push up!" Kai yelled across the pitch as he eyed his teammate. "I'll handle it, you go attack!"
There was slight hesitance in the midfielder as he heard Kai's commands. But Amine himself knew he was struggling, he could barely string a few passes together before a turnover of possession. He was defensively solid, Amine was the only thing that stood between the defenders, but he knew protecting the goal wasn't going to do any good. Amine begrudgingly charged forward:
"Defend Well!" Amine yelled back before charging forward, supporting the team's offence.
Playing as a deepest midfielder was a revelation for Kai. Suddenly, he was in the thick of the action, breaking up attacks, intercepting passes, and dictating the tempo of the game. It was a whole new world for him, and he embraced it with open arms. Balls arriving by his feet as he so desired, so long had he missed the touch of the ball.
Zagadou anxiously cleared away a through ball as he leapt into the air to challenge the opponent striker. The ball bounced and rolled into a few feet before the defender. Kai rushed after the ball with deftly reaction, as if he could almost predict where the ball would land.
"Kai! Behind You––"
A disaster. An opponent was on Kai's tails as he approached him in his blindside. But the next moment shut Theo Hernandez right up. It was delicate and simplistic, yet the trickery was simply paranormal. A touch and a spin, a Cruyff turn that elegantly beat the pressure from his opponent.
Kai authoritative stamped on the ball as he inspected the situation on the field. He had the ball before his feet. He will control the game, he alone will help the team together as one collective entity as they push towards a shared ambition – Victory!
With Kai's newfound sense of purpose and dedication, his team began to improve. Passes started finding their mark, the defense held firm, and the opposition was forced to retreat. And as the game wore on, Kai found himself growing more and more confident in his new role. It was as though he can control the game, everything went through his own feet, every attack was his own making as he alone decided how the team should operate.
It was as if a new world was before him. A new way of playing football that he never knew. Away from the assist and attack. This was a team game, and he shall be the one that command the team, orchestrating the grand ensamble away from everyone's eyes.

As the match entered the final minutes, the tension in the stadium was palpable. Both teams were locked in a stalemate, each struggling to find a way past the other's defenses. But the momentum had shifted. No matter how desperate their opponent tried to win the ball and score the second goal to put the game to bed, they just couldn't find their rhythm in the match. The whole impetus changed, and it was firmly thanks to one man alone.
Kai was at the very heart of it all. He was a metronome that kept everything ticking in order. The game was in his control, the ball moved and progressed under his watchful eyes. Everything they did was under his careful consideration, everything was controlled by him.
