Viktor was busy writing his thesis about human interaction. He had already written about a thousand pages by now. He decided that it would take him too long to finish if he wrote too much about his research.
His research led to him discovering that humans and animals interact very differently. In general, they tend to act in ways that contradict each other, while in the case of other species, they tend to behave in ways that are similar but differ in different aspects.
Viktor realized how easy it was to get too involved in the details of his research. He had to admit that he had fallen in love with his work, which was why he was now in a difficult position.
If his thesis ended up getting into the hands of the government, he would no longer be allowed to continue working as a researcher. The problem was that Viktor was still young and inexperienced. He was only twenty-two years old. With the amount of work he did for his parents, he would never make it past fifty.
However, Viktor didn't care. Viktor would rather be a scholar than a scientist, and that meant that he would have to quit his job.
Viktor shook his head and pushed the thoughts of quitting his work out of his mind. For now, he had a bigger goal to achieve: making money to pay his parents back for the sacrifices they were willing to make for him.
Suddenly Viktor heard a knock at the door. He looked up to see who it was and his mouth instantly dropped open.
Standing right outside of his door was Yurio.
Viktor wasn'ee prepared for this. He was afraid that if he saw Yurio, something terrible might happen. What would he say? How would he react? Would Yurio recognize him?
"Um, hi..." Viktor managed to stutter.
Yurio looked at Viktor with confusion and suspicion. Suddenly, Viktor realized what he must've looked like.
"Yurio! You scared me! Are you okay?" Viktor exclaimed as he quickly rushed over to Yurio and put his arm around his shoulders.
Yurio looked at Viktor with a weird expression. Viktor had always been so friendly to him before, and now he was acting completely different. It was almost like Viktor wasn't the same person. And it made him wonder what exactly happened to change him.
When Yurio didn't say anything, Viktor continued talking.
"I mean, I thought you might not want to talk to me anymore since you've changed so much. I hope you don't mind if I just sit here with you for awhile? I'll leave if you want me to..."
Before Viktor could even finish his sentence, Yurio spoke.
"Why did you stop calling me 'Yura'?" Yurio finally asked.
Viktor froze. He felt his heart beat quicken. He wasn't ready for this question. He just wanted Yurio to forgive him, but Yurio didn't seem like he was going to give Viktor any time to answer.
"Don't you ever call me that again! Is that clear?! I didn't ask you to stop, you idiot!! Do I need to remind you that you left me?! I'm your best friend! Don't you dare treat me like an object!" Yurio yelled furiously at Viktor.
After yelling, Yurio walked away angrily without giving Viktor another chance to respond. After a moment of silence, Viktor sighed and pulled out his phone. He scrolled down on his conversation log and began scrolling to the end.
Yuri was there. He was there with Georgi and they were laughing about something. They looked happy. Viktor wished that he had friends like them instead of the ones he had now.
Suddenly, there was a flash of light. Viktor looked up to see what had happened. A huge explosion came from the other side of town. There was fire everywhere, and people were screaming. People were running away frantically. Some people were carrying their own children on their backs. Others were holding onto the people closest to them and were pulling them along.
Some people were trying to escape the chaos and fire as well. However, most of them were being held back by the others.
