At the edge of the village, the miner, carrying a message for Castle Horomiir, rode off into the distance. Before leaving Kilreath, Gerard stood before the dwarves.
"Would both of you please try to use your transference spells?" Gerard asked.
"We can, but how do you know we can use that spell?" Kherim asked.
"I've seen you both use it first hand. Now, please try."
Kherim took out a silver coin from his pocket and held it in the palm of his hand.
"Transference," he said.
The silver coin stayed in place.
"Let me try!" Bherim confidently shouted.
He took the coin and concentrated stiffly.
"Transference!"
The silver coin remained still. Both dwarves looked at Gerard in confusion.
"So, it's not just me. I'm sorry. When I pushed Kherim's soul into his new body, I used the Transference spell. The gods, unhappy with how I kept helping people cheat death, erased the spell's existence."
