Chapter 23 - Refining Talisman

Standing in front of the boy's booth, Zhu Lin looked at the papers and knew that the quality of the papers was very good. The boy who was closing his eyes to rest felt someone around him and opened his eyes.

When he saw a very beautiful elder sister browsing his wares, he asked, "Elder Sister, do you want to buy paper or writing brushes and pens? All my items are of high quality. They have not been damp or crushed before, and the packaging is intact."

Zhu Lin touched the paper and knew that the boy was telling the truth. She looked at the boy and asked, "How much is this paper?"

Since she only had a few crystal nucleus, Zhu Lin would not be able to afford it if the price was too high. She thought for a second, and then added: "Can you give me a cheaper price?"

Haggling is not uncommon in this market. So when she asked for a cheaper price, the boy smiled and said, "Elder Sister, if you buy more, I will naturally lower the price for you. How much do you want to buy?"

Zhu Lin smiled, pointing to a pack of papers she likes and asked, "Then how much is this pack of paper?"

The boy looked at the best quality paper selected by Zhu Lin and said, "My items are very cheap. Two slices of bread can buy three packs of this paper."

Zhu Lin was a little surprised to hear that the boy wanted food instead of crystal nucleus. Looking at the package of papers, she made a rough calculation, and guessed that there were at least two hundred sheets of paper in one pack. Exchanging two slices of bread for six hundred sheets of paper is extremely cheap.

Seeing her surprised expression, the boy quickly said, "Two pieces of bread for four packs of paper. The price couldn't be lowered anymore."

Seeing the anxious look on the boy's face, Zhu Lin took out a bottle of mineral water and a box of military ration. She put water and food on the ground and asked, "How much paper can I get in exchange for this food and water?"

When he saw the two-liter bottle of mineral water and a box of military ration, the boy's eyes widened in surprise. He had seen this kind of ready-to-eat military ration before, and knew the small box contained three servings of food and two servings of snacks. If he can get these food and water, his younger siblings will not be hungry or thirsty today.

The boy calmed down his rapid heartbeat, looked at Zhu Lin, and said, "Elder Sister, you can exchange this much water and food with half of my paper."

Seeing that the boy was emaciated and obviously starving and thirsty, Zhu Lin took out two more bottles of mineral water and four boxes of military ration. She still has a lot of water and food in her ice flower pendant, so she should do something good today.

Pointing to the papers and some writing brushes, she said, "Give me those writing brushes and all the paper. I will exchange them with these."

After finishing speaking, she waved her hand and put everything into the ice flower pendant, and said, "Pay attention to your water and food, and go home early."

Leaving this sentence, she got up and left. The boy watched her back for a long time until she disappeared into the crowd. Seeing that no one was looking in his direction, the boy calmly packed the mineral water and food into the cloth, and then hurriedly dragged the bulging cloth back to his small tent, where his younger siblings were waiting.

Xiu Wu, who was standing not far from there, watching everything from the beginning. He crossed his arms and looked thoughtfully at Zhu Lin who was still looking around the market. Following her around the market, Xiu Wu found that she was just looking around and didn't buy anything except paper and brushes.

Forty minutes later, Zhu Lin walked out of the market. She found an abandoned table and chair on the side of the street not far from the market. After confirming that the table and chair were without an owner, she sat on the chair, and then took out a pack of paper and a dagger from the ice flower pendant.

Tu Tu got off her shoulders, sat on the table, looked at her as she opened the plastic wrap of the paper. Zhu Lin took a piece of paper, calculated the size, and folded the paper four times. She then cut the paper into four parts with the dagger.

Looking at the four pieces of paper, she asked, "How is it? Isn't this about the size of a talisman paper?"

Tu Tu sized up the paper with its pair of red eyes, then nodded, and said, "Um. Master, quickly try to draw the talisman."

Since the road was empty and far away from the crowd, Tu Tu did not use telepathy, but talked directly to Zhu Lin. In fact, the rabbit prefers to talk to its master with its mouth directly rather than using telepathy.

"Mhm." Zhu Lin agreed.

She immediately took out a writing brush, and a jade bottle filled with the blood of a giant snake. Since there was no inkstone and no container to hold the giant snake's blood, Zhu Lin directly dipped the writing brush into the jade bottle.

Holding the writing brush, she held the wide sleeve in her left hand, and began to write the ancient language of God on the paper. Ten seconds later, she put down the writing brush, made a simple hand seal, and tapped the paper with her index and middle fingers.

When her finger tapped twice on the paper, the paper shone for a second, then the light disappeared.

Zhu Lin picked up the newly refined talisman and asked, "What do you think, Tu Tu?"
