Chapter 30 - Game of truth or kill (4)

"I believe those ugly hunters did not explain to you what the Dark Tower is, right?" Master Alpha raked his eyes among the humans and smiled with his purple slit eyes softening with pity.

"Then what the heck is it? And why are we forced to play games and then kill each other?" Peter once again stepped forward. His left arm was stretched in front of Cayden, beckoning Cayden to step back and shrink behind his shoulders.

Cayden: "....."

Are you seriously trying to protect me?

[Drifter's Clock Archive Skill has been successfully activated.]

[Initiating archive database….]

Whether Peter stepping up was a coincidence, Cayden was thankful he did it. Because in front of Cayden, a series of pop up screens appeared before him. And he was so surprised Cayden almost tripped up when he flinched. The others nearby noticed his abrupt movement but ignored him. The Alpha Snake on the stage also did not see his strange reaction.

Letters, numbers, and figures appeared before him, and he could not understand them. Then vague words suddenly cleared up all the numerical figures.

[Snakebeast's games are commonly played in the snakebeast tribe for entertainment. Rather than participating, they let all the prey they captured battle against each other. Random questions are nothing but camouflage. The orb crystal used to judge a prey's answer is usually tampered into giving numbers that will pit the prey. The squares in their monopoly game are occupied of four types of squares.]

[First, are the reward squares. 90% of them are in the 1-50 squares. These reward squares can provide weapons and boost an individual physical strength or agility in a given time. Some can provide abilities that are strictly limited.]

[Second, are the punishment squares. As stated, these punishment squares can torture an individual's mind and some can tear off an individual's body part. 80% of them can be found in 51-100 squares.]

[Third, are the jump squares. These are squares that will let you jump backward nor forward. But these squares are rigged so that when a prey chose to move forward, no matter if its another jump or reward, it will be converted into a punishment square.]

[Fourth, are the battle squares. The first category of the battle square is to have the two prey fight each other to death. If, in a limited time frame they failed to kill each other, no matter what the reason, snakes from the grids will be released and devour the two. The second category for battle squares are the prey versus a Warrior Snake. Only one can get out of the battle field alive. Third, are the snake grid battle squares. The snakes present in the grid will be released once a prey landed on these squares. And for these unlucky prey, they will turn into a new monster pet for the Alpha Snake and forever be its slave.]

[Important note to Drifter Cayden Campbell: The third category battle squares are located at 90-100 squares.]

Cayden's breathing became sluggish.

This new surge of information is new to him. He may have gone back in time but in his fifteen years of experience, the only game he experienced while facing off these Snakebeast race is called 'Field Hunt'.

He knew a monopoly game existed but he did not know what are the rules and clearance for this, he has no idea.

After all….

A rumor was widespread among the human players. The Snakebeast's race monopoly game can only be played in the elimination game. And none of the humans who partake in it get out alive.

While Cayden was immersed in his own world, the Master Alpha was introducing the Dark Tower to the rest of them.

"The Dark Tower is an ancient existence that gathers strong and capable individuals to challenge the trials. At random, it will visit realms and gather strong individuals. Your world is currently experiencing the first stage of Dark Tower's selection. Hunters call it 'Elimination game' as it eliminates the weak and promote the strong. But oh well humans, don't fret over these mindless games. The Dark Tower is a paradise you know."

"Riches, power, strength, eternal life. Everything is possible in there." Master Alpha pointed to the body of the young man the giant snake eaten.

"There are items and rewards in the Dark Tower that will lend you powers. And what's more, if you reach the tenth floor, you will be gifted with extraordinary abilities that we call 'Skills'. Usually, only one skill will be given to challengers, but if you manage to be part of the Top 100 ranking in human challengers, you will be given a choice to choose another skill."

"What's more, if you landed at the Top 100 with the overall ranking for the challengers of different races, a god will choose you as their candidate. Now, do you know what that means?"

The suspense paused and bated breaths of the human present made the corners of the Master Alpha's mouth curve. His eyes flash with glee.

"A god's candidate will let you borrow their strength. Can you imagine it? Possessing a god's power is like being a god in this world. Whatever you want, just a snap of your fingers and it will be given to you." His purple slit eyes lingered on the young woman who just tried to stop the young man.

"If you are chosen as a god's candidate little human girl, you can bring back that human who was just killed. What your wishes right now will certainly change after you experience life in the Dark Tower. As long as you work hard and do everything to survive, you will rise to the top, never to be looked down upon."

All the seventeen humans were stunned. Their eyes were shining and it was impossible to restrain the heat in them.

Cayden snorted to himself and almost could not resist the urge to roll his eyes to the nonsense this snake is spouting on stage.
