Chereads / THE CURSE: ENCOUNTER / Chapter 9 - HOME

Chapter 9 - HOME

Ceaser watched as the shadow moved closer to him and hold his hand. He closed his eyes hoping that whatever Crow meant when he said 'share your body' wasn't going to be painful. He opened his eyes again after he felt nothing but the shadow was gone. Was it over already? Where they sharing a body now?

The room brightened a little bit as the sun's rays entered the small space. Ceaser remained on the bed and thought about what he saw earlier.

'Those wolves turned into people. Mother would have been scared if she had seen; I was too. I wonder what she is doing now if she's alright.'

The door made a creaking sound and Ceaser jolted up and looked there. A tall man was standing at the door looking at Ceaser. He bowed and opened his mouth to speak but shut it again.

"You can speak. Where are the others?" asked Ceaser.

He recognized the man as one of the ten wolves from yesterday. The man had shoulder length silver hair and blue eyes like Ceaser. He was muscular and he only wore tattared trousers.

"They are preparing for the journey back to Dreg, sire. Genevia is wait..."

"Genevia?" Ceaser asked shocked before he could finish speaking.

"Yes, sire. She is outside if you would like to talk to her." the man said with his left leg already stepping out.

Ceaser got down from the bed and walked out of the room.

Terra woke up and found Solemn packing their luggage; something he had never done. She knew the coward she had married would run. Was he just going to leave his son behind?

"Where off to?" she asked even though she knew what his answer would be.

"What do you mean ' where off to'? Do I need to remind you that your son has been accused of soccery?" Solemn answered.

He had packed their clothing in a trunk and for the first time since they met, Terra saw her husband without any jewels to adorn him. She could see the fear in his eyes; fear of his own son. She took her mind off of him and thought of Ceaser again. She had a dream that he was at home waiting for her to return and a part of her hoped it was so. Warm tears streamed down from her lovely pale blue eyes and she made no effort to dry them. Her cousin had just lost her child and her niece was saying strange things about Ceaser. First Eve had said he was watching a man being killed, then that he was going to kill the forest and that he had pets.

Eve didn't even cry after her younger sibling disappeared from her mother's womb. She insisted that the baby was not real and that her mother knew it well.

Meanwhile in Eve's tower, Eve stood by the window watching the servants prepare a carriage for the king and queen of Dreg. Ceaser hadn't returned so she wandered where they were going without him. She had a feeling that only the king was willing enough to leave without his son. The queen had cried half the night and had almost escaped to go into the forest to find her son. When Eve got tired of watching the men, she drew the curtains and turned to look at her bed. Most parts of the room was covered in white. But for the black curtain behind her bed stead, the room would have completely white. She walked quickly to the enormous bed and stood on it. She held the black clothe in her small hands and scrunched up the fabric to pull it down.

She tugged the fabric a few times before it fell to reveal what was hidden behind it. Princess Eve smiled and touched the Rock solid monument. It was a large bird's body just cut below the neck area. She noticed some new deep cracks in the rock and traced them with her fingers. She frowned deeply thinking of what or who had caused this.

"I'm sorry Crow. I'll find your head and then you will kill whomever you wish." she said softly," We can start with that prince.....Ceaser. Can you believe he chased me and even removed a guard's tongue?"

Eve didn't sound like a child as she spoke to Crow's body. She rested her head on the rock and was about to place her hand in one of the cracks when a blue light came from it. She smiled feeling that he was finally accepting her friendship. Went in for a hug but this time the rock was like a burning furnace. Her small hand were scalded and she nearly cried.

Outside, Terra was been forced to enter the carriage by Solemn. She screamed and kicked but for the first time, his grip on her was strong. His left hand let go of her arm when she bit into his skin. She thought that maybe he would release her but then he slapped her. The men around them stopped what at what Solemn had done to the woman. A year rolled down one of her cheeks and then another one on the other cheek. He pushed her into the carriage and climbed in after her.

The ride through the main town of Zeth was quiet and uncomfortable. When they approached the forests however, they both noticed that the trees were beginning to rot. All the dense green that stretched for miles was turning dark. The horses didn't even want to move for a while. The coachman came to Solemn's window and said that something was wrong with the horses.

"Wipe the harder, you fool." Solemn answered as if it was obvious.

The coachman sighed and went back to the front. He heard a twig break but before he could turn the horses had started galloping faster than they ever had while pulling the carriage. The carriage rocked violently making the people inside go up and down and side to side.
