Before I realized it, it was already afternoon. All of the troops within FF Base were fortifying the base as they await for my next order. Although that was the case, fortifying the base was not really what I ordered to do as that was merely a suggestion from Blanc. She seems to know a bit about battle.
"So how are we going to defend this base, White?" Blanc was seen crossing her arm as she asked me that question.
I suggested to her, "I think I need to know how many are we fighting against..."
"I can do that." Shiro volunteered.
I guess I can rely on Shiro with that kind of job at the time. I kinda fumbled a bit when deciding what to do, especially when this was kinda my first time doing a lot of these thing. I'm not really the type to be leading something. I'd rather take part in something.
"Alright. You do that." I told Shiro. "And make it fast."
"Very well, captain." Shiro tips his hat and went to scout on the enemies.
Captain. That really needs to be getting used to that's for sure.
"So White, what do you think of The Empress?" Blanc suddenly asked me.
I was a bit surprised, "What made you bring that up now?"
"No particular reason, really. Other than the fact that you seem to know each other very well."
I feel like I couldn't really lie too much on this Blanc because she seems to be more adamant about the things that shes always curious about. She's not the same as the real Blanc where she wouldn't question to much.
I replied to her, "We're..." I tried to think of a word and what comes out was, "We're frienemy."
"Frienemy?"
"Yes. She's someone that is friendly but I have a fundamental dislike about her."
"Is that so? How long have you two each other, then?"
"About a year and half if I can recall..." I told her.
"So you two don't have a thing?"
"What 'thing'? I hate her. But she's still friendly despite me hating it. In the end we just agree to disagree over a variety of things."
"I see...So you're single."
"Well...not quite. There's someone already waiting for me back at...home."
"I see." Blanc nodded. "Hopefully your hearts able to keep it that way." Blanc then walked away.
What was she talking when she said that. Did I offended her or something? I wasn't able to tell what was going on as my minds were on the defense of the base. Putting that aside however, half an hour have passed and Shiro have returned from his scouting. He reported to me that we were facing 500 troops. From what was gathered, this was not the main force as it is just the vanguard. They were tasked to secure this base before their main force arrive. I better prevent that though.
"So it's 500 against...150 troops..." I sighed.
"That's some disadvantage there. Will we be alright?" Shiro was worried.
I pulled myself back and told him, "We'll be alright. In fact, this is perfect."
"Perfect in what way, exactly? We're outnumbered."
"Yes, we are outnumbered. But if you look at the map...we have our own advantages."
Looking at the piece of paper that was on the table, what can be seen was that FF Base is located near a river. The enemy is on the other side of the river. In order for them to get to us, they had to either cross the river or use the small bridge. Crossing the river won't be a problem for them but the good thing about this is that we actually have a floodgate for the river. Plus, the weather was getting gloomy.
"Are you talking about the floodgate, White?"
"Precisely. But we're not just going to slow them down. We're going to thin their numbers as well."
"How?"
"Call in Blanc as well as the generals. It's time to fight."
The clock had struck one o clock and a drizzle has started. Enemy troops can be seen approaching the bridge. Blanc was on a horse as she stood alone at the bridge. As the enemy was getting near her. She stood back and raised her giant sword. She then destroyed the bridge with her carnage abilities.
"Bet you can touch me at all!" she shouted.
She then continued to mock the enemy. As the only means of traversing have been destroyed, the enemy forced themselves to cross the river. The water wasn't exactly fast despite the drizzle. Blanc ran back as she notice the enemy approaching. Almost half of the enemy troops had crossed the river, the situation was getting dire. But that was exactly as planned as Shiro can be seen opening the mentioned floodgate. Thanks to the drizzle, an abundant amount of water began crashing down the troops trying to cross the river. Some of them we're quickly drown from the burden of their armors and half of them have been separated. They were in panic as they realized what happened.
But before they could react, Blanc stopped in front of the gate and raised her giant sword once again and shouted, "Archers! Take Aim! Release!"
A rain of arrows poured down on the enemy as they tried to scatter to wherever they could. There was no escape as the arrows continue to pour in. A few salvos later, Blanc stopped the archers and opened the base's gate. Behind the gate was cavalries waiting to help her. Together, they charged and executed all of the trapped enemies. Just like that, half of the enemy's vanguard has been eliminated without losing a single unit of our troops. We were able to cut down the enemy's vanguard in half and completely reducing their number to a more advantageous number for us.
Although it was a success, this was not the end of the defence as the enemy was forced to regroup back at their camp. They might be waiting for the main force to arrive or they might do something else. But we won't let them have any of that because the only way for us to win this battle with only 150 troops is by showing them how terrifying we are.
