Chereads / The sin of the Countess of Malibrán. / Chapter 19 - The declaration of love.

Chapter 19 - The declaration of love.

The expected attack of the Countess to the girls of the boarding house never came alone, much less to the Román mansion.

It was already Saturday April 17 and René had to return to Houston the next day, so Pamela and René decided to spend the last afternoon they had together on the boardwalk in front of their house, leaning on the railing while watching the sea.

- I have to go now, Pamela, and you still have to give me something! -said René with a complaining accent.

- And what can it be, if I already gave you all my love, all my time and all my kisses? -answers the smiling and sweet girl.

- And if I ask you for it, will you give it to me? -René says to her, with a nervous voice.

-It depends on what it is, on how you ask me, and that Mrs. Adelina doesn't notice, because if she finds out, she might force us to get married.

Pamela answers, already anticipating the facts, taking for granted that the boy was going to ask her for the proof of love as a farewell gift, already mentally and hormonally predisposed to give it to her.

-My mommy doesn't have to be angry about that, not that she was so old-fashioned. -René says, surprised by the girl's words.

-It's obvious you don't know her, you'll see that if she finds out, she'll scream her head off and she'll take the plane to Houston, to take you by the ears on the plane back to force you to marry me, but I know you'll do it when you come back from your studies because you love me like I love you, right? -says the girl hugging him tenderly.

-Yes, but she don't have to be angry.

René tells her and the girl looks at him strangely, as if realizing that they were not talking about the same thing.

-Let's see, tell me what you want me to give you, that according to you I haven't given you and that according to me I haven't given you, because you haven't even asked me for it, but before you ask for it, I want you to know that I am already yours, and that I will say yes to everything you ask me, because I already owe it to you. -The girl tells him with a promising and eager smile.

-Come.

René tells her, taking her by the hand, leading her a few meters away from the beach, between the waves and the boardwalk, where there was a group of stones of regular size, where he sat her down, and looking among the stones, something he had previously hidden, he took out a wrapper where there was a little gift box and a letter envelope, which he gave her lovingly, to tell her, solemnly, while he put a knee in the sand.

-This is for you, regardless of your response to what the letter says, I want you to keep it forever, as a token that I will always love you, even if one day you forget me.

The girl looked at him excitedly, while he was still with one knee in the sand waiting for something, which for a few seconds she did not know what it was, until she realized that what he wanted to tell her, was in the envelope and in the gift box, and excitedly opened first the envelope containing a tender gift card, with the drawing of a little green frog, holding a sign in her hand that read: "Will you be my girlfriend?

- Will you be my girlfriend?

Pamela smiled excitedly when she saw the card and asked him to get up and said:

-Yes René; of course I want to be your girlfriend! Now I realize that that was the only thing you needed me to give you, because you had not asked me for it; Of course I want to be your girlfriend! And then your wife, and the mother of your children, and the grandmother of your grandchildren, and whatever else you want me to be.

By this time the boy was opening the little gift box, which contained a pair of gold chains and a gold heart also broken in half, he placed a part of the gold, with Rene's name engraved on it, on one of the gold chains, and put it around her neck, carefully fastening it on her neck, and he gave Pamela the other part of the gold heart, and she, doing the same, put the ring of the half of the gold heart that bore his name, and placed the chain around his neck, thus sealing a beautiful engagement in the romantic way that was customary at that time among boys from families of good manners.
