As the trio of Rex and the two women continued after spending a night in the cemetery with the Spector King. The trio found themselves close to a bandit hideout.
"For now, you two head back. This is for your safety." Rex said.
The sisters headed back to the closest shelter. This shelter was for wounded cultivators that the bandits controlled. It was to get information on suspicious activities within the surrounding areas. Not only that, they could also use it to find people worthy of doing business with.
Rex silently walked towards a caravan. The caravan consisted of three bandits driving six horses on three carriages each.
Two bandits inside cages with people inside them. Some old, some young and gender did not matter to them.
Rex found the last one filled with nothing but children. He was not too keen on keeping this carriage around. He waited for the perfect moment. He drew a spear out and threw it hard.
It passed through the cage bars and pierced through the two bandits' skulls. The children were afraid. Rex silently opened the gate door. He quickly ushered the children to come. As the last carriage was emptied.
The other two were thinking something was off.
It was too quiet. When all three carriages came to a stop. The children kept quiet and hid in bushes and behind trees. Their hopes were not to be noticed.
The three bandits all exited the front of the carriage. Two went to the left and one to the right. Rex went behind the two and broke their necks.
He strapped them to the bottom of the carriage. He waited for the last one to go to the left to quietly dragged him under the carriage.
"Roll call!"
The first two carriages were sounded and nothing from the third. This already made the bandits suspect something wrong. The two carriages decided to hurry back.
The problem now was Rex was emitting his Demonic Aura very low. This little amount caused the horses to be afraid of what was going on.
Where humans and demihumans can notice it. Being around it so much makes them numb to the effects of low level Demonic Aura. As for horses who keep their wits on the Qi and killing intent on them.
This caused the bandits to realize a demon was around. They needed to survive.
"Have the prisoners fight for the chance of survival. Who all survives gets to live as a true bandit." Two bandits ordered.
The others came around and opened the cage doors. Even though the prisoners were handed daggers. They did not dare try to fight the bandits. A demon is worst than a bandit in their eyes.
The two carriages got surrounded by the prisoners. This was to protect the bandit leaders in this mission.
"We already lost one to this demon. We cannot afford to lose anyone else to this bastard!" The older one of the two bandits said.
"Of course. You have not failed a mission yet. Here I am becoming the harbringer of misfortune." The younger one said.
"Mission success and mission failure only depend on one thing. That is survival, by surviving that means learning from mistakes and not repeating them." The older one said.
"Thank you." The younger one said.
Ten minutes passed before the duo knew it. The prisoners could not see how the bandits were already beheaded inside the carriages. They did not dare to try to look unless they wanted a spear in their skull.
Rex appeared on top of the carriage with the two bandits. Rex knocked both of them out. He wanted them to be alive for a few questions.
Rex knew that where they were going was the shelter. The problem was that a few key pieces needed to be taken care of.
"Let me see if they are as resourceful as their mother is." Rex said.
He had planted the information inside their bags on who to kill. Where they normally slept, to what they ate, and where the office was located within the shelter.
Rex called every survivor around. It took a few minutes for the prisoners to accept the call because no one told them to move.
When they saw the dead bodies. A relief of seeing loved ones again came upon the people. Once everyone came around.
"Our next stop will involve the bandits again. In there, I will act like one of the bandits who encountered a demon. In order not to let all the resources go to waste in getting you all. All of the prisoners were put into one carriage and only I drove the carriage. Being stronger than most, I could do it. Since I was with another group, I got paid to help with the job.
As for each of you, you will be able to leave once we get the bandit shelter taken care of. So please, remain quiet and afraid. I will not be able to completely get them to accept what I said unless you all act accordingly.
As for the children, you all adults keep them calm. This will help keep the act straight so that no one dies."
Once everyone was tightly into the single carriage. Rex drove the carriage to the next stop which was the shelter.
