Death stared at Deathholder like a traitor. All sense of life seemed to disappear from Death. All it wanted now was to devour the Soul that had been given life.
Death could not move any closer to Deathholder. That would mean crossing the Nine Tailed Queen. These existences are a fate worst than any fate that can exist if crossed the wrong way.
The Nine Tailed Fox knew someone was behind them. She sprouted her tails to inform whoever was back there to stay. She was currently staring at Deathholder in the eyes.
Deathholder had a smile that showed he was ready for death. She knew that whatever he was truly planning needed to be done.
"What is the reason for our glasses?" The Nine Tailed Fox asked.
"To pour over my tombstone." He replied happily.
Death knew that he was going to fight and lose. Death wondered why he would go to such lengths just for his family.
"My son does not need to know why we are called Deathholder's. I ask that you both reply with, "The journey was hard on him."
Seeing the sheer look of determination. The Mistress of the Shadows held her hand behind her.
Death accepted the hand. Death made sure not to harm any cells on the woman who seemed to help him. The Nine Tailed Queen did not want this to happen.
Death could sense this. Since someone else was helping, she could not physically interfere. Death got beside Deathholder but the Mistress of the Shadows did not retract her hand.
"What should happen dear?" Deathholder asked.
"My hand should retract but she would not be happy." The Mistress replied.
Death looked towards the Nine Tailed Queen. He saw a very angry Queen. Death tried to force the hand back to the Mistress but he was physically incapable of doing so.
The Nine Tailed Queen reached out and grabbed both of them. The anger in her eyes was evident.
"Please dear. I know I am being completely selfish. I want to be selfish with this." Deathholder replied.
Death just looked at her.
"I have no reason to help you with your selfishness. My husband does, so he will be the one to decide when you can die or not."
She turned her gaze to Death, "By glaring at me, I will force you to die."
A visibly shake happened on Death. Nothing that Death did could shake the fact that the Mistress of the Shadows was holding her hand out.
The sky turned into a night filled with millions of stars. If one could count, they would find a brand new star being born.
The figure of Death became clear. It was one that had gained a victory over Death. So he finally had a smile that was not on the tapestries.
"Deathholder, you are much too young to experience death." Death said.
More life was given to Deathholder.
"Please do not misplace this life. For if you do not accept this life, you will become like me. I do not wish for that to happen. So do me that favor please."
Deathholder felt that this was too much.
The Nine Tailed Queen felt a song coming through her. She began to sing.
The words were not unable to heard. Death looked at the Nine Tailed Queen. He knew that she should not have known that sing. Whatever made her sing that was something mystical.
"My life is complete. I thank you for singing that song."
Death disappeared.
A new tombstone appeared in the cemetery. The trio went over and sat down beside the tombstone. The tombstone had Death written on it.
Below it had, "Inari's gaze can kill even Death."
During the night
Millions of cultivators and beasts died from freak accidents and attacks that should not have been able to.
For the cultivators, tournaments going on and everyone used sealed attacks that would not kill. Even using wooden weapons so that no major death would happen.
Piercings with spears, attacks that would not even affect babies, massive Qi fluctuations, and beasts trying to love on their masters. These are just a few of the many different kinds of accidentally death. We are not even counting the death that was trying to happen.
Beasts crying in pain and anguish from killing their beloved masters. Cultivators had to kill the said the beasts. Many of their ended up killing each other for the kill.
The beasts that did die, the cultivators found a spear to the heart. When they would look up, the Soul of the Tamer was seen. They felt anguish for dying in such a manner.
Wild beasts went berserk. Many of the carnivorous beasts went to attack cities because the freshest meat was in sight.
A single glowing star guided all the Souls to where Inari was. The Souls found that danger lurked behind every corner.
Beside Inari was a curse. The curse of becoming the next Death was on an elderly man.
Souls did not want the man to become Death. A cry to the Goddesses made sure that the Souls were guided in the correct path.
The Nine Tailed Queen could feel every Soul as if she was the one controlling them. She made sure to ignore the Souls. She was enjoying the peace of the night with her masters.
Through the curse, Deathholder felt every Soul cry. He wanted to try and help them. He found that the Nine Tailed Queen was not paying any attention to the Souls.
He knew she could tell they were there. He was glad that she was not paying any attention to them.
The only one who did not know was the Mistress. That was because she could feel different Qi relaxing around them. She thought that her student was actively trying to keep everyone calm.
The group relaxed until the morning came and the Nine Tailed Queen left. The Nine Tailed Queen left the Heavenly Realm. When she did, the Mistress learned about everything that transpired during the night.
"Time to work." She ordered.
A hundred Shadows left the coliseum. Their job was simply to help everyone recover from the Death dying. It would be after the calamity entered the Mortal Realm that the Heavenly Realm got straight again.
