Dax fell back onto his bed. As he did, he reached into his pocket and pulled out the small mysterious orb and studied it. He watched as the dark clouds swirled around and after a few moments he thought he could see small bolts of lightning erupting from the mysterious cloud. The rest of the world and the room darkened around him as his focus was drawn into the orb.
His phone started ringing and vibrating in his pocket, causing him to snap out of it. He closed his eyes a few times to clear them and shook his head. He then put the orb back into his pocket and pulled the phone out of his other pocket. He looked at the screen. It was Fey.
Dax was too lost in his own thoughts to worry about his new friend, so he ignored her call and laid the phone down beside himself. He decided to just close his eyes and wait for dinner, letting his mind rest from the stresses of the day.
*Pop* A loud noise came from his window. This caused Dax to open his eyes and investigate. He stared over at the window but did not see anything amiss. *Pop* He saw a small rock fly from the ground and strike the glass of his window. He stood up and walked over.
Outside he could see Fey standing below holding several more rocks in her hand. He opened the window and called out to her. "Fey?! Why are you even here?! How are you even here?!"
"Don't worry about the how, come down!" She replied back.
"Why?" Dax asked.
"Just do it!" Fey replied.
"Can't we just talk about whatever it is tomorrow?" Dax asked. "It has been a hell of a day."
"No. Get your ass down here." Fey commanded.
Dax thought for a minute. He could just close the window and ignore her, but that would risk more rocks or worse. Dax decided the best bet would be to just see what she wanted.
"Alright." Dax yelled down. "Just give me a minute."
He then closed the window and went downstairs. His mother was busy cleaning the kitchen and his father was surrounded by books in his study. He didn't want to disturb them, so he left without saying a word. He figured that he would just be right back inside after he dealt with whatever Fey wanted, anyway.
He made his way outside and walked over to Fey.
"About time." She said, "Why didn't you answer your phone?"
"I was busy." Dax replied.
"Right…" She said, "Regardless, let's go on that adventure right now."
"What?!" Dax questioned. "We have a week!"
"Look, I just need to not be home right now." Fey said. "Please?"
She gave him a sad look, attempting to pull on his heartstrings.
"Alright, but only for a little bit." Dax said. "Although I don't know why we have to do this, we could just go inside. Mom is going to have dinner ready soon. We could just hang out."
"I am totally not ready to meet your parents! We just met, slow down!" Fey teased.
Dax blushed a bit as her sudden declarations. "I didn't mean it like that!" He protested.
Fey just smiled mischievously. "I know, but what would everyone say?" She explained. "If anyone saw me go into your house rumors would spread faster than farts on chili day."
"Farts on chili day…?" Dax asked, slowly. "What kind of…"
"Don't worry about it." Fey interrupted. "Look if we go slime hunting together no one will say a word, I personally don't care, and would actually love such rumors as they would torment my mother mercilessly. However, I know that you wouldn't want that, so slime hunting is best."
"Thanks for that." Dax said. "So where did you want to go slime hunting?"
"There is an old cave not far from your house actually!" Fey replied, excitedly.
"You know this how…?" Dax asked. "Also, can we just circle back to how you knew I lived here?"
"Don't worry about it." Fey said, still smiling mischievously.
Dax sighed deeply. "That just makes me more worried." He replied, in a depressed tone.
"If you think anything is hard for a girl with spunk and unlimited resources, I fear that there may be no hope for you Daxy." Fey explained. "Now let's go! Adventure awaits!" She grabbed his hand and started pulling him along.
A forest sat not far from Dax's house and Fey led him inside. They traversed the woods and over a stream, until they found a large rock covered in ivy and moss. Fey pulled the ivy away and revealed an entrance to the cave.
"It's just in here." Fey said. "Come on, follow me." She darted inside.
Dax took in his surroundings. Too many things were not adding up in his mind and he was becoming increasingly suspicious. He was torn. He did not know whether or not to trust his new friend and delve into the depths of this unknown cave or to listen to the growing worry inside of him.
"Are you coming?" Fey's voice could be heard from inside the cave.
Dax's phone began to ring once more. He figured it was his parents reaching out to him because he left unannounced. Upon looking at the phone he was surprised to see that it was Fey calling him once again.
"You coming?" Fey asked again from inside the cave.
He decided to answer the phone. "Hey, I just wanted to check on you and make sure you were okay." Fey said as he answered. "I know it has to be rough, but don't worry…"
"Fey where are you?" Dax asked, cutting her off mid-sentence.
"Home why?" She answered. "Is everything okay?"
"No, I will call you later. Thanks for calling!" Dax said as he hung up and started running away as quickly as he could. He ran without looking back, as he did, he heard a blood curdling scream coming from behind him.
