Chapter 34 - Thirty four

"So how is the music class here?" I asked Casey, wanting to know because back in my school in the city, we usually had an orchestra practice and I hated it, so much hated it.

"Uhmm... just the usual, we all seat according to our voices and...."

"Wait what, you guys sing here?" Oh no.

"Yeah, there was this one time, we did a presentation in front of the whole school, our principal says our set has the best music talents since she took over as principal."

'Too much information.' I thought to myself after she said all she just said.

"Everyone has to? What if you can't sing?" I started to breath fast and heavy because I could already imagine a situation where I would be asked to sing.

I couldn't sing. I could but I didn't want to, not here; in school, in front of my classmates. It was a different thing singing in the shower or singing along to a song when you were alone, lying in bed.

"Well, like Ms Miller always says; everyone has a voice, you just have to explore it."

"Ms Miller?"

"Yes, our music couch and instructor."

"Okay, do you also sing?" I asked her.

"Yeah. I am part of the altos." She sounded proud to be singing.

"Oh."

"What tone do you sing?" Casey asked as I started to round up my book and pen that I just used for this past class.

"None." I told her, I lied because I knew that I most likely won't be told to join on their singing if I couldn't sing.

"That's not possible." She laughed shortly.

"I'm serious." I needed her to believe me.

"What do you mean none, there is no way you don't have a voice, just sing so I can hear you, Ms Miller can probably help you sing better.

"No, you don't get Casey, I can't sing, I sound awful, so very awful. Trust me, you don't want to hear me sing."

"Oh, is it that bad?"

"Yess."

"Well, maybe Ms Miller will just have you play one of the instruments."

"Yes, that I can do." I sighed after I said that, thankful that she just believed me.

"Julie, let me show you our music room." It was Nick's voice. I turned around and Uche was standing next to him and also Kim and the others usually with them.

"I thought I was gonna take you there?" Casey whispered to me. I thought about it quickly and decided that I would rather have Casey show me to the music room, that way she could back me up when I started to explain to the music coach; Ms Miller that I couldn't sing.

"Casey will just show me," I told him and even though it was so visible, they was surprise written on his face.

"Oh you are talking to Casey now? Well that's good for me." Nick said smiling."Alright guys, let's go, her friend will show her there."

"She's not my friend." I needed to make it clear to Nick and all of them present.

"What do I care, as long as she shows you there and everywhere too." Nick said before leaving, others followed him behind, others except Uche. He had stopped smiling after I said that. Without saying a word like I thought he would, he walked away too.

I turned around and Casey was staring at me, her eyes seemed sad, really sad, I think she had tears in them. She wiped a tear that almost escaped her left eyes with the back of her palm, I was right, she was sad. Did I do that?

"Let's go, so we don't have to stand all through the whole class, Ms Miller doesn't appreciate anyone been late to her class." I heard her say with a sober voice and I felt bad.

After saying that, she just walked past me without waiting for me as usual, she probably didn't want me to see her cry. I didn't like anyone to see me whenever I was in tears too.

Briskly going after her, I tried to meet up with her but she reached a door before I could do that and went in. She went in without me! Shit. Now, I had to enter there alone and explain to the Ms Miller why I couldn't join everyone else in singing. This was why I didn't like to relate with people, Casey just left me when I needed her help.

I inhaled and exhaled repeatedly before deciding to go through the door. When I walked in, almost everyone was seating, arranged. I looked around for Uche with my eyes, he was leaning against a wall on the left part of the room, his hands in his pocket while he looked around at nothing or no one in particular. Nick was beside him, a hand in his pocket too while he scrolled through his phone with his right hand.

I looked again at Uche and he was looking at me, still have in his leaning position, he took out his phone from his pocket and started to use it. Was he avoiding looking at me?

My phone dinged in my pocket and I got it out to check who it was sending me a message because that would decide if I replied the text or not. It was Uche. I looked up at once and his eyes were on me.

Looking back at my phone, I opened the text and read in my mind;

'Y did u do that to Casey?'

I looked back at him, his eyes were on his phone now, he probably just saw that I had seen his message and was waiting for me to reply.

'Idk. 🤷‍♀️' I replied his text honestly.

'U don't know?'

'Really?' He texted again.

'I was just been honest.' I told him.

'U hurt her feelings, didn't u notice?'

'What do u care' I asked him.

'What do I care?'

'Yh, y do u care.' Maybe I am the jealous type of girlfriend because I didn't like that he cared about how Casey felt.
