Chapter 14 - Chapter 8: Family Meeting

-Slayer Association-

Inside the office, there was a young man, someone who seemed to be in his twenties with silvery hair, and a confident smile on his face, though something that actually caught me by surprise was the fact that he was wearing full-on armor. Which outside of dungeons was not something I expected to actually see.

"So, I imagine you are the one who was almost trapped inside a dungeon. I'm Tristan, and I'm just going to ask a few simple questions to help us ascertain some things before we send a team into that dungeon to investigate." Tristan introduced himself.

"Boss, he seems to have met with Sir Rolls before I called him." The guard beside me reported.

"... Don't tell me asked some random person around for cigarettes again?" Tristan frowned before asking.

"That's exactly what he did..." I responded.

"... Are your ears fine? Do you feel any pain or dizziness?" Tristan inquired. Which means this could have happened as an effect of meeting Rolls.

"Not really, I'm fine." I answered.

"Good... You're dismissed. Now mister?... Náli correct? Please sit down." Tristan told the guard to leave before inviting me to sit.

"Yes, that's me." I wasn't one to say too much in these kinds of situations, so I kept it short as I sat down.

"To begin, when did you hear the system announcement, and what did it say?" Tristan began the questioning.

"I would say it was about 1 hour or maybe 2 ago and it said that a change has occurred in the dungeon and a new boss has risen, so the dungeon would rise in rank, that's about it." I explain it, since I need to actually give them something if I don't want suspensions to eventually be put on me.

"Hum... I see, but would you say that you could see any changes in specific in the environment as you were leaving?" He moved to a different matter.

"I can't say, since I wasn't paying too much attention to the surroundings and was more so focused on leaving the dungeon, but if I had to say, I guess I didn't see any major changes as I was leaving." I expressed.

"From the report I got you were alone, why was a newly registered rank I- slayer like yourself alone in a dungeon?... Especially considering your file also states that you registered together with a young woman, who you claimed was in a relationship with you." Tristan asked.

"Well, I wanted to test my abilities out without causing too much commotion, so we went our separate ways... Besides, after we were attacked, I didn't know how to feel around her." Once again half-truths were thrown into the mix as I replied.

"I see, I assume you are talking about the alleyway attack? Miss Sasha has already informed us of that situation and even requested we didn't bother you about it, you would be surprised by the level of influence your alleged girlfriend has." Tristan continued as calm as ever.

"Yes, that... So is this it?" I was the one asking this time.

"No, moving on, Did any of the monsters you came into contact with act weird in any way?" Tristan's questions keep coming.

This continued for a while as Tristan asked more questions and we stayed there for a while before I was finally allowed to leave.

"Before you go though... I have some bad news for you, Mister Náli." Tristan stopped me.

"What is it?" I didn't think much of it and asked.

"Your father has been arrested for partaking in illegal business, I can't get into details as the case is still ongoing as we speak, but the rest of your family has already been informed, and you missed it as you weren't present there. It seems we'll each other again, sooner than expected." Tristan dropped some unexpected news on me.

Not having much to say, I just excused myself and left, making my way to my house, and inside, I found my mother and my siblings, my 3 brothers and 3 sisters, everyone was there. The sisters are all younger than me, while the brothers are all older.

-Home-

"Náli! Sweetheart, you're finally home. Come here, sit with your siblings, I have something important to tell you." Mother called me, as soon as she saw me enter the house, and so I did, sitting on one of the sofas with my brothers.

"Those look nicer than your usual stuff, where did you get them?" My more relaxed bother, Niel asked me as soon as I sat with them, as he was looking at my new clothes.

"Not the time for that, you two can talk later, let mom speak right now." The eldest sibling, my brother Odrac interjected before I could answer.

"So, as I was telling your siblings before you came in, your father was arrested in Japan and it seems there are a few problems involving China as well, but the gist of it is that he's not coming back anytime soon. I'm not sure me or him ever talked about this since we decided not to, but we used to be Slayers... Well, I don't even think the term was even a thing back then in the times of the first and second Apocalypse, but what's more important is to know that because of that, he will be under the Slayer association's watch and won't be able to just get paid out of this." Mother explained to us. This was information I was aware of but never gave it too much thought since I never found much about them, but if the Slayer association is going out of their way, my parents might be much more impressive than I initially thought.

"But what exactly happened?" Odrac inquired.

"I don't really have too many details, so it's hard to say. I'll get more information once my contacts reach out to me, but until then we know as much as was revealed to us by the Slayer association." Mother responded.

"Tsk! That's bullshit! It's definitely a ploy by some other company trying to mess with us." Niel was the rest to react to the information.

"Can you not overreact? it's a bit too soon to say anything." Odrac retorted to Niel.

"Enough! Now's not the time to bicker, the reason why I called you all here, is to tell you that as per your father's request in case something like this ever happened, his power in the company would be assumed by two of the siblings, a son, and a daughter, so you will all have a month to prove that you should be the one to take on that position, though you are free to not do anything if you're not interested." Mother told us.

"That sounds like a load of work... I don't know about that." Niel commented.

"Of course, you don't... It would be a real shocker if you did." Odrac remarked.

"You know what?! I'm going to do it, just to rub it on your face!" Niel immediately changed his mind.

"Love to see you try." Odrac was not worried in the slightest.

While me and my last brother, Kios just sat there in silence listening.

"Oh please! This is no fun for me. I win by default since I'm the only one old enough, or are you really going to put me up against snot one and snot two?" Una the eldest sister complained.

"Hey! I'm no snot! It's not my fault I'm not old enough!" The middle sister Zeliana retorted.

"Yeah, she thinks she's all that for winning because of a formality. Simply delusional." Kelia the youngest sister and siblings spoke up.

"You really want me to go the jail for murder, don't you?" Una looked at Kelia as she said so.

"Fun? Are you really worried about that despite all the benefits?" Mother questioned Una.

"Who cares? I'm not really interested in the company in the first place. I can't advance my singing career if I'm busy with that anyway." Una replied.

"Why do you bother? Your fans are all creeps anyway." Zeliana had chills on her spine as she commented if I'm not wrong there were a few times when Una's fans tried to contact the rest of the family to get to know her... Odrac almost killed a couple of guys for even daring to text our younger sisters.

"They say the fanbase reflects the artist and that says all we need to know." Kelia attacked again with her backhanded comments.

"Arrggh!" Groans escaped Kelia's mouth as Una pulled her hair.

"You loudmouth little goblin, do you really not understand who you're talking to?" Una said to her.

"I'll call the cops on you! This is child abuse!" Kelia yelled as she tried to escape Una's grip to no avail.

"Una! Let go of your sister! As for the rest, I don't have much else to say right now, but once I know more, I'll tell you. Don't worry, your father will eventually come back, he always finds a way out. You can all go now." Mother spoke to everyone and then one by one we all left the living room.

Once I reached my room, I lay on my bed thinking of the chaotic day I'd had, and with a smile, I decided to sleep and do whatever I have to do tomorrow, even though it was morning right now.

Even with inexhaustible stamina, sometimes I liked to sleep and rest, and this was one of those times. In a few days, I would get the party I had made, and focus on testing their abilities. As for the company, that can be taken care of later.
