Chapter 9 - "I Want To Quit."

Gaburu – he was yet another goblin just like Rei.

If ranked, then he was just one rank below Rei as the Orc Chief favoured Rei over Gaburu. But if actual abilities were taken into account, Gaburu and Rei could be considered equals.

"Damn it! Even a snail is faster than you. Increase your speed!", Gaburu said.

'Argh. I just want to snap his neck so bad…', Rei thought.

-"Well if you try to do that then it will just break your fingers lowering the remaining hp."- Lucas said sarcastically.

"Alright you fucking moron, I get it!" Rei screamed unable to hide his frustration anymore.

Lucas had been screaming and teasing Rei all this time so Rei couldn't hold back anymore.

"What did you say…?", Gaburu quickly shot back.

"I wasn't talking to you…", Rei said, trying to avoid any eye contact.

"Yea, yea… What do you think, am I a kid?"

"If you weren't talking to me, then were you talking to someone in the air? Even better, a ghost! Were you talking to a ghost?", he took a pause before continuing.

"Look how much time you have wasted!"

"You bastard, I am in awe because of you. Just how can a creature waste so much time?", Gaburu just didn't seem to stop. He just kept insulting and seeing him, Rei was reminded of the voice – Lucas.

Regardless, Rei tried to change the topic.

"So what is the matter? Why did master call us?", Rei asked as he looked in Gaburu's direction.

"Who are you to question master? You thrash.", Gaburu said.

"Ok, jeez calm down," Rei said.

Today Gaburu didn't seem in good mood.

He followed Gaburu and soon reached in front of a giant dirty-looking cave but the inside of it was completely different.

The inside of the cave was luxurious. There were many orcs, but the most noticeable among them was a gigantic one, who was larger than the rest. He was the chief and was sitting on a giant throne.

Not just Rei, but many more goblins who lived close to the border of the settlement, were called.

Some goblins, despite being in the group for a long time, were afraid of the orcs standing near the entrance. They were even frightened of the ones that acted as the chief's bodyguards.

"Greetings master. I have fulfilled your request and brought all the high-ranking goblins over here.", Gaburu said bowing his head, not daring to make eye contact with the orc chief.

Gaburu had called everyone earlier and Rei was the only one left – whom he called the last.

"Good, good j…", the chief was going to praise Gaburu, but he quickly spot Rei who just arrived.

"Oh! There you are Rei, my favourite slave.", the Orc Chief said pointing at Rei.

'No… not again! Just as I was going to get praised, he comes and destroys everything!', Gaburu thought as he gritted his teeth.

"Yes master," Rei said as he bowed down not with respect but with fear.

'Damn! If only I got a chance, I would twist his head.' Rei thought.

-"Wake up to reality! Instead of you twisting his neck he will snap you into two pieces."- Lucas said sarcastically, trying to warn Rei.

Rei didn't think much of it and remained quiet – as mentioned, due to fear.

The Orc Chief then looked at all the goblins that had gathered.

"You slaves might be wondering why I wasted my precious time summoning you all… Well, the reason is simple, I am going to task you all with very important missions…"

"And remember, they are much more important than your puny lives..." Orc chief's maniac voice echoed, making them all shiver in fear.

Everyone remained quiet, not making even the slightest sound.

"Well, the quest is that you have to poison the food of Baramun's soldiers…", the chief said.

"…"

The moment he mentioned the individual Baramun's name, everyone present there started to sweat profusely. This was not limited to goblins, even the orcs that guarded the entrance started to sweat just by hearing the name!

Lucas observed this behavioural change in everyone.

Especially, Rei's thoughts which were only about fear!

'What!? Is he mad? Has he finally gone mad for real!? How can we goblins, do such a difficult… in fact, impossible task!'

-"Uh, who is this Baramun?"- Lucas asked, but Rei didn't dare say nor think anything.

"But I am not forcing you all. If anyone wants to quit then they are free to do so." the orc chief said.

'What the hell!? Since when did this fucker become so kind?', Rei was utterly surprised by what the Orc Chief just said.

He gathered everyone so that he could inform them about an impossible mission and now, he was giving them options… Was it really volunteer work?

'Well, why do I care…?'

'I am his favourite…'

'Even if he hadn't given the choice, I am pretty sure that he wouldn't let me go if I asked for it…' Rei thought that he could easily opt for not going, however, Lucas had already realized what was going on and decided to intervene and add to what Rei was thinking.

-"Hey bro, don't trust that guy..."-

-"I know that something bad will happen if you say you want to quit, just trust me bro... Trust me!"-

-"No matter what happens, don't opt for…"-

But before Lucas could complete what he was saying, Rei said his hand, not caring about a single thing that Lucas said.

He thought that the voice was talking shit and none of it made sense… well, Lucas didn't provide proper evidence either. But disregarding him in such a manner was quite the wrong decision.

-"HEY! WHY THE FUCK ARE YOU RAISING YOUR HAND!?"- Lucas shouted at the top of his voice, almost causing a massive headache for Rei.

'Stop! It's my decision.', Rei said to Lucas, in his mind.

-"And I am telling you that it's a bad decision!"- Lucas said.

But no, Rei was just stubborn and perhaps, by learning actual pain, he would understand the way of Lucas's words.

"I-"

"I want to quit."
