Chapter 53 - If Only I Had Known

"Did I really ask you to do that?" Narrowing his gaze, George asked Dillion, as he was uncertain.

For a moment, George was in a daze as he tried to recall what had happened precisely that night.

What he remembered clearly was an accident in one of his subsidiary companies; thus, he left Grace Island in haste before the first ray of the sun came out, leaving Krishna worn out behind.

Then, when he boarded his jet, his mom called to let him know Florian asked Stella for a divorce, so the Graham Chateau in London was chaotic, with the elders scolding his cousin.

That was what he could only recount. Yet, he could not remember what came to his mind to give out such order as removing Krishna's memories of that night.

'Why did I do that? I could treat it as just a one-night stand. Right?'

"I can't remember why I instructed you to do that," George spoke after a long silence, hoping for Dillion to tell him the details of what happened a year and a half ago.

Dillion, on the other hand, scratched his temple, weighing how he could explain everything when he only followed his boss' order that night.

"Well, sir... On our way to the airport, we met Master Lin Wei, who was waiting for the elevator. Then, before the plane took off, you kicked me out of the aircraft. You ordered me to request the master to perform hypnosis on the woman you slept with."

"That's all?" he was in disbelief at how no sense it was. More likely, he appeared as a douchebag for doing such a thing to an innocent woman.

"Well… You said you don't want to deal with her after she wakes up. You were afraid that she would cling to you after she succeeded in sleeping with you. Umm, you believe she is sent to seduce you? And you told me that …."

Dillion trailed off his following words that narrowed his boss' gaze, unhappy that he kept things suspenseful. The former then coughed.

"Ahem! Well, sir. You said that Miss Krishna is pure. She didn't… I mean, as we reflect on that incident, Miss Krishna and George Mendez don't have an intimate relationship."

What Dillion meant by his statement is Krishna hasn't been touched by her fiance, which left her a virgin—and knowing that, how cruel his boss was to erase the poor girl's memory of the incident.

'Is boss remembered Miss Krishna was clean when he slept with her? Could it be the reason he was so good to her now? Not only that, he gave her a lot of money. He was like making up with her.' Dillion has presumptions.

George's brows knitted as he processed Dillion's double-meaning words. He could sense that his words were not just superficial.

Indeed, something so precious, and he just forgot that.

Why would he not? Krishna was just a strange woman who harassed and embarrassed him in public. His impression of her is terrible for what she did to him that night.

Obviously, he was not happy at all and wished to forget it.

"Alright. That's all then…." George waved his hand, dismissing his most trusted subordinates.

"Good night, boss!"

Dillion bid good night as he dashed out of the home office. He was in the middle of sorting out contracts in his bedroom when George summoned him.

After returning to his suite, he breathed a sigh of relief.

"Hey, Dillion, you're back! What happened to you? Is the boss in a bad mood?" The man who queried him was Benny.

As the right-hand and the senior assistant, he and Benny shared a suite on the same floor as their boss wanted his subordinates to be nearby since he had so much work he gave them.

Dillion glanced at Benny, who was in the kitchen. He walked toward him and inspected what he was doing. "What are you cooking?"

Benny nodded and replied, "I made some noodle soup. I have more work to finish even though I have to wake up early tomorrow. So I need more energy to grind tonight."

"I see. It's a long night for me too. Give me some of that."

"Okay. It will be done in ten minutes."

While waiting, Dillion returned to his bedroom and checked the contracts on the long table. Suddenly, his phone rang. He pulled out his phone from the back of his pants and answered without checking the caller ID.

"Hello?"

"How's Krishna?"

Recognizing this voice, Dillion straightened his back. He rushed to his bedroom door, locked it, and went to the bathroom.

"Don't worry. She is resting now."

"How about your boss? Is he treating her right?"

"He is. Boss is letting her stay here to keep her safe."

"Really?"

"Yes." Dillion nodded, even though the person on the other line would not see it.

"Alright. I just wanted to check whether your boss stopped mistreating my best friend."

Dillion rubbed his forehead when the person in the other line seethed in anger. Thus, he tried to appease her. "Don't worry, Camilla. After the boss learned Krishna gave birth to his son, he was gentle and kind to her."

"Is that so? What if he had a plan against her? Is he planning to take the baby?"

"No. And if there's one... I'll be the first person to know."

"Alright. If anything else, I want you to inform me right away." On the other line, Camilla didn't care if she sounded domineering. "Remember, Dillion. You owed me big."

Dillion wasn't happy that Camilla could dare to threaten him like this. But they have an agreement.

"I know. You have nothing to worry about." After he said this, the other party ended the call. Dillion heaves a long sigh once more, might it lift the weight on his shoulder even just a little. 'I'm sorry, boss!'

"Dillion, it's time to eat!" Outside, Benny knocked on the door.

Startled, Dillion answered, "I'm coming!"

~

It had been long since he remained seated on his swivel chair, sipping the brandy as his gaze traveled through the ocean.

George has been in deep thought after Dillion left his home office. It lingered in his mind regarding what the latter had suggested.

"If I restore her memory of that night, then? What would happen after? Will she recognize me and remember the embarrassment she caused me that night? Or what reaction would she have after remembering we'd slept together?"

George could not find an answer within himself. He finished the liquor and put away the glass before he headed to his bedroom.

The moment he pushed the door open, he didn't find Krishna. 'Did she return to the guest room upstairs?'

George staggered his way to the staircase. He twisted the door handle, but it was locked.

However, the woman inside didn't know he could open the door just by his fingerprint. He pushed the door open, and his eyes darted at the silhouette in the bed.

George made a light step toward the bed. He stared at Krishna for a while before he decided to sit down. He stretched his arm and combed her hair with his fingers.

At that moment, a wave of guilt stabbed his heart because he decided not to retrieve the memory Krishna had forgotten.

"Maybe it is better this way… If only I had known that you were George Mendez's fiance, I probably would have erased your memories of him too."

The following morning, Krishna's phone sounded its alarm. She stretched to reach for her phone but could feel a giant frame blocking her from getting close to the bedside table where she had placed her phone last night.

Krishna opened her eyes, just to be shocked. When her gaze landed on a beautiful face, she forgot her initial plan of turning off her phone.

Meanwhile, the man beside her frowned when the loud chime disrupted his beautiful dream. With unhurried motion, he opened his eyelids and beamed upon recognizing the woman before him.

"What are you doing?! Hmmm… George Graham!"
