Chapter 9 - I Am Your Wife

I remained overwhelmed by what had happened earlier in the hotel, yet I had another encounter with wealthy people.

Why do I seem so unlucky the moment I step into this city?

When I thought I was utterly fortunate to be on this vacation, I encountered such unlucky events where I often bumped into someone; worse; they were mighty wealthy people!

"Whoa, Miss!"

When Jerry saw me exiting the elevator, I noticed the glimmer in his eyes as he scanned me up and down several times.

"Jerry?" I called him out shyly, snapping him back to his senses.

I was not used to being stared at like this, so I could not hide blushing. Probably because I often pretend to be invisible in a crowd.

"I almost don't recognize you, Miss Krishna! You look so pretty!"

Both Donny and Mrs. Lawrence keep me complimentary. Now Jerry does the same. "You know what, Jerry? I think I'm going to believe you."

"You should, Miss! I am telling you the truth!"

Jerry swore at me by raising his right hand. I giggled and said, "Alright. Thank you."

I pretended to believe what he said. I could use his compliments as courage to think I look fine tonight. This is the biggest dinner party I will attend so far. Thus, I am too nervous.

Jerry opened the car door for me. I thanked him, but I paused halfway when I caught sight of a couple and recognized the woman.

The woman hugged and kissed the man on the lips before she climbed inside the white Rolls Royce. The car I saw in the ad today.

I thought the man would follow her in the car, but he didn't join her; instead, he walked to another vehicle. To be exact, a sports car.

I was in a trance when the car drove away. After I realized it was leaving, I panicked.

"Jerry, drive now!" I yelled at Jerry, in which I had no time to compose my emotion and apologize to him, when I suddenly shook him on the shoulder with force. "Hurry, please!"

Poor Jerry. I was embarrassed that I was demanding toward him. But I could not care about it for now.

What is crucial for me at the moment is to chase the white Rolls Royce.

"Jerry, follow that white car!" I pointed my index finger at the car that drove ahead of us.

Confused, Jerry glanced at me in the rearview mirror and queried, "Is there a problem, Miss?"

"Um..." I didn't know how to explain it to him.

Perfect that we are passing at the man at the moment. I scrutinized him, and he gazed back at me, or I guess he was trying to distinguish who was the passenger in the black Maybach because his eyes were glued on our car.

I don't know him, so I was sure he didn't know me either. When we passed him through, I casually peeped at the back, and he was indeed looking at the car.

"Do you know him, Jerry?"

I looked at Jerry from the rearview mirror. He made quick eye contact with me before he hurried to focus his sight on the road.

"I've seen him for a while now, Miss. I am new to the hotel, so there are a lot of VIP guests and my boss's business partners that I didn't know yet."

"I see..." It disappointed me I could not get any information from Jerry.

"Do you want me to continue chasing the white car, Miss?"

"Yes, please! I need to speak with the woman in that car." My eyes were focused on our front, so I missed noticing Jerry staring at me with intrigue.

"Do you know that woman, Miss?"

"Yes." I met Jerry's gaze and told him the truth. "That is my friend, who initially won the vacation prize. She was supposed to be with me on this vacation but did not meet me at the airport. I recently learned that she had a new boyfriend, and she is with him."

"I understand now, Miss. Hang on. I will speed up the car."

Jerry told me what I should do. I held on to my seatbelt and prayed that we caught up in the car.

Unfortunately, we were stuck in a traffic jam and lost Camilla.

"Answer it, Camilla!" I dialed her phone number, including on Instagram, but Camilla ignored my phone calls, so I typed a message.

"Camilla, I saw you! I was tailing you. Let's meet up, please!"

However, Camilla did not reply or read my chat on Instagram.

"I'm sorry, Miss. I lost the car. I guess they notice us tailing them. So they probably become vigilant." said Jerry.

"I think it was my fault. I messaged Camilla and told her we were tailing her car. But she just ignored my messages and phone calls."

"Did you have a misunderstanding with your friend, Miss?"

I looked at Jerry and shook my head. "No. We don't have a misunderstanding. So I was confused about why she was ignoring me."

"Hmm… You were very close friends if she brought you here instead of her family member. Am I right?"

"You are correct, Jerry."

"In my perspective, Miss. That was truly strange. Why is she afraid that you will see her with her boyfriend? Does she have any plans to introduce him to you?"

"Well, I don't mind if she would not introduce her boyfriend to me. All I cared about was for me to know that she was okay and her life was not in danger. When I landed in this city, she stopped contacting me until recently, with the help of our friends who could contact her."

"Well, do you have any suspicion why she is behaving like this?"

Jerry's constant query helped me realize something was wrong with Camilla. "I should find it out, Jerry. Thank you for enlightening me."

"I did nothing, Miss."

"You are so humble, Jerry. When my vacation is over, I will leave good ratings and pleasant words."

"Thank you, Miss Krishna. Your good words for the staff will earn us a lot of merits."

"That's for sure. I will particularly mention you."

It's the least I could do for the excellent accommodation the staff offered me. I don't have money, so I could not tip them that much, just a few bucks. However, I will definitely rate the hotel with perfect stars and leave a wonderful message about the program.

"We've almost arrived at the hotel, Miss. You have twenty minutes before the welcome dinner party begins."

"Thanks! It was because you drove well." Jerry chose shortcuts, and streets that were not that busy, so I skipped the heavy traffic. "See you tomorrow, Jerry!"

I exited the car and hurried my steps toward the elevator.

"Have a great night, Miss Krishna!"

I nodded and smiled before the elevator closed. The welcome dinner party was held in one of the grand dining halls at this hotel.

I almost lost my way, thanks to the older couple I met in the hallway. They were also the prize winners and heading to the party, so I trailed behind them.

"Did you miss me, sweetheart?"

I was passing a lobby when I heard these words. The voice is sweet and tender, and I could not help not crane my head toward the couple being intimate in the corner, near a console table in front of the floor-ceiling window.

"Why didn't you inform me you were coming?"

The man is supposed to return the same sweetness the woman put on; however, he questions her with a bit of coldness in his voice. With how he treated her, the woman seemed disappointed, but she quickly concealed her emotion.

"I wanted to surprise you. Why? Aren't you happy to see me?" said the woman.

"I'm busy. You shouldn't come here,"

replied the man.

I could not stop myself from gossiping. I halted and peeked in their direction. However, I felt like lightning had struck me.

A woman is hooking her arms around the man's neck. But that man is the same man Camilla kissed earlier. But now he was with another woman!

'Did my friend even know this?' I was about to explode and prepared myself to confront the guy.

However, the words the woman muttered next were like a bomb to me.

"I am your wife. Is it just normal that I am here?"
