Chereads / A Queen Picks Up A Simp / Chapter 10 - Relic

Chapter 10 - Relic

He has been living his life peacefully for the past few days. The mission Jovanovski has briefed out with him on has been outlined, and he's supposed to do it by tomorrow.

However, he has found a new reason to be upset about.

The other day, a journalist requested an interview.

He knows this must mean trouble for him... but he also wants to get rid of the lousy press and release his side of the story, so he had accepted. But he has a bad feeling... he can't place his finger on why exactly... He looks down at his right hand, his left arm is still in pain, and he's still waiting patiently for this journalist.

But there is only one problem... he doesn't know who this journalist is and he's beginning to think that it may not be worth it...

He is awoken from his thoughts when a car drives up to his house and stops. The door opens to reveal a young woman, blonde and with a bright smile.

"Hello! My name is Monika; I work in a photo agency!"

She holds out her hand.

"Well, hello. I'm Angelov." he takes her hand and shakes it.

Anna notices his arm.

"That's quite a nasty scar you have..." she says, taking a step forward and getting closer to him. Her fingers reach out to touch his bandaged forearm. He pulls his arm back a bit.

"Um, no, really, I don't mind it..." he tries to lie to her, but Anna does nothing except raise an eyebrow at him.

Angelov sighs.

"So why are you really here?" he asks.

"I heard you're the most reliable man in town... so why not let me use your service?" Monika says, holding her camera in front of her chest.

Angelov frowns. What did she mean by 'service'?

"I'm afraid I can't do that."

"But why not?" Monika asks, slightly disappointed.

"My job requires me to report on people. Didn't you already know? My job gets people killed. I don't do that anymore." Angelov explains

Monika's face drops.

"Just let me in your house for the interview then." She sighs. "Come on, please?" she pleads.

Angelov takes one more deep breath.

He couldn't deny his curiosity; after all, this woman could clear his name. He needs that in order to be a bit normal.

"Okay." Angelov finally concedes.

"Yay, thanks!"

He leads her to his house, and they sit across from each other in the living room.

"Can I see your tattoo?" Angelov asks.

Monika's eyes widen, and she immediately shakes her head.

"No, no, it's really not that special." She lies.

"Sit down, Karin," Angelov says as he sits on the couch.

"Hm," Karin smirks as she sits across him.

Angelov raises an eyebrow. "Don't tell me you forgot your manners?"

Karin smirks at him and shakes her head. "I'm not going anywhere, so why don't we start with something easy," she suggests.

Angelov leans back into the couch, a look of concern plastered on his face.

"All right, shoot."

Karin takes off the outer lens of the camera and pulls out a wad of bills.

"Take me to where the relic is. Tell me how you got the blessing." She orders, putting the money on the coffee table before grabbing the camera and holding it in both her hands.

"You've got to be joking," Angelov mumbles under his breath.

Karin ignores him and starts rolling the camera.

Angelov watches her from the corner of his eye, trying to stay relaxed, even though he really isn't.

This was his first meeting with one of them. He didn't know how to react. If he wasn't careful, things might go very wrong.

"How old are you really?" Karin suddenly asks Angelov.

He looks at her quizzically.

"I'm forty years old."

"Hmm.. that can't be correct; you look like twenty-something," Karin says, continuing to roll.

"I am telling the truth... why?" he asks in confusion.

"Hmm.. because I saw someone a couple of years ago who looked exactly like you." Karin continues, keeping her attention fixed on the camera lens.

Angelov closes his eyes, praying that the girl would stop asking those questions.

"I'm forty-five years old. Now, are you done asking questions about me?"

Karin gives him a dirty look and rolls her eyes.

"I can't believe you're so stubborn." she snorts.

"Let's get to the point. We have your son," she says.

Angelov's eyes open, and he frowns.

"My son?" he questions cautiously.

"Yes. Your son. I met him earlier today, actually. He's very nice. His name is Miko." she continues.

"Where is he?!" Angelov asks frantically.

"In the hospital," Karin replies calmly. "He's a bit dehydrated."

Angelov jumps up.

"Get out of my sight!"

Karin raises an eyebrow as she gets up.

"I'm going now. Don't worry about me; I'm just doing a favor for one of our clients."

"What do you mean?"

She presses the button on the camera, and the wall behind Angelov crumbles to pieces.

"I worked so hard to access the relic, and yet all I got is this camera! Damn those Egyptians!" she screams, stomping her feet.

"I want to take the relic and give blessings to people I want. I want to rule the world!" she yells louder and starts kicking the debris.

"That's dangerous! The relic is kept in there because it has the power to change the world forever!"

"I'll snap your son if you don't help me."

"I can't believe I will be stuck to you." Hilde groans, pointing to Horus.

"Boss, why?"

"You don't question me." Ms. Jovanovski bangs the table.

"You want to investigate whatever you want to? Fine, here are the resources, but do something for me there."

"Anything..." Hilde mutters.

Ms. Jovanovski points at a group of people sitting in chairs on the side.

"Ask them some questions about the relic. Find out where they came from and what they wanted with it."

Hilde gets up.

"Sure thing, boss."

"Go, get out of my face. If you get the relic for me, I'll give you anything you want."

Hilde didn't really hear the last part. She's more worried about Felix.

"Are we going to find him again?" Horus asks her.

"Yes." Hilde answers. "Don't worry. If anyone can solve him, it will be us." She holds his hand.

"Don't get yourself into trouble for me. Just do what I tell you to do," she whispers to him softly.

"Of course, I will. We're partners, remember?"

They leave the building.

Hilde and Horus walk outside together; Hilde takes him to a local café, where they meet Annie. Annie takes one look at Horus and smiles. She loves dogs. So far, the two of them seem to be becoming great friends.

They sit down in a booth and begin to chat with each other. As they continue talking, Annie gets a weird look on her face and stares at Hilde.

"What are you looking at?" Hilde asks.

"Nothing, it's just..." she trails off.

She turns away and looks over at the window behind Hilde and then at the door.

"Can you go on a date with me?" she asks.

"Yes, as friends... I mean we are good friends, aren't we?" Hilde says frankly.

Annie blushes. "Yeah... yeah, we are," she nods slowly.
