Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: Death

The Wind Blew, hammering against my face. It was cold, quiet, dark, and so damn lonely. With nothing in sight for miles, the grassland planes of Nebraska were a terrible place to be. Raised as a farmer, to be a farmer, always a farmer. That's what my dad had always told me. I had told him I had; I couldn't fucking take it anymore. We had gotten into a bad argument. We had both said shit...and then he said something that nothing would every fix. I could recall the poison that came from his mouth. "You worthless fuck" he had said in his fit of rage.

I left, walking along the endless highway of freedom. With no money or supplies I didn't make it far. Haha what a stupid thing to do, leave the comfort of the things you know.

I finally sat down after hours of walking in the dark of night. Looking along the highway, I got glance of a vehicle's headlights lean in over the horizon. Very few cars drove this late at night leading into the massive farms of Nebraska. 'Must be a trucker' I thought silently. (' ' will be used for internal thinking of our main character from now on :) ) The lights crawled closer and closer to me, until I could hear the engine of the semi-truck roaring loudly like a raging beast. The lights, still on bright began to blind me. The roar of the beast began to get louder and louder. The truck approached as a bright blob of light and once close enough, it became clear the driver was speeding. A 60mph road and he was at least driving 80. Then all of a sudden, in the ditch to the right of the highway, an object of speed and tender movement burst out onto the road. 'Fuck a deer!....HERE!?'. As I attempted to get up, I saw the black outline of the fawn line up in front of the blob of light. It happened so fast. The sound of the horn, the moment the left light of the truck went out, and the curve of its path bend toward were I sat. There's was nothing I could do.

I think I rolled on my stomach when the pain hit. Intense fire overtook my abdomen and lower back as I lay on my chest. The fire spread out wards from my chest and lower back, taking over my arms and legs. I briefly lifted my head seeing nothing but red and with that last movement the fire overtook my head.

Surly I was burning alive for it felt like even the fires of hell could do nothing more to me now. I saw no more from my eyes and quickly lost my hearing as well. All I had left was the burning sensation covering my body, and I could somehow feel the beat of my heart. Ba-damp Ba-damp Ba-damp. The burn turned to a cold, which then transformed to a freezing cold feeling. Ba-damp Ba-damp Ba-damp Ba-da. And then nothing. No cold, no heat. No sight to see nor sound to hear. Just black, empty, dark, nothingness.

Yet I felt my consciousness still at work, I could still discern darkness from light, sound form quiet. So, what was happening? Had I died? If so, why could I still think these things? Where am I? Yet I had no answer.

I sat in darkness and quite for what felt like years. Years to decades, decades to millennia. It was truly terrible, a terrible terrifying thing. Until finally, a speck of light appeared in the eternal darkness.
