Meanwhile, when Lucas arrived in the north, the first person he saw was Belisarius. He sat inside his office, his face devoid of any expression.
"You came..." Belisarius said coldly.
"Why would I not?" Lucas asked, not hiding the sarcasm in his voice. The current Belisarius looked as if he had been in a war, his appearance disheveled, his face pale.
He looked exhausted.
"Will you answer my question?" Belisarius asked.
"Have you thought about how we met?" Lucas approached the bar, poured wine for both of them and handed a glass to Belisarius before sitting opposite his friend.
"You saved me," Belisarius said, downing the glass of wine. "Does that mean I owe you a life?"
"You know you could never defeat me," Lucas said. "I gave you another chance at life, and I won't take that away." Lucas understood what Belisarius truly desired.
