It's been two days and Veron still didn't wake up. Worry was eating deep into Celeste's bones, and although Salma assured her that he was making progress, she still couldn't relax.
She had heard stories of people making progress while they were being treated, giving their loved ones hope that they would get better soon, only to relapse and sometimes even die in the end.
What if that happens with Veron? Everyone will look at her as a murderer with an unforgiving heart, who killed the father of her child even before he could see the child. No one will want to hear her side of the story, and it wouldn't matter the explanations she gave.
That thought made her want to kick him awake. Why was he bent on making her life difficult? Even without doing anything, he was making her think too much.
Plopping her tired self down on the couch, whose position had been shifted to be beside the bed, she started poking his cheek again.
*Poke* "Wake up."
