Chapter 22 - An Ethereal Meeting

Through my slumber I felt two hands digging into my side, sending shocks through my body, jerking my body upright. At first I looked around to the east and saw no one, wondering if it was just a dream. But when I turned towards the west there she was.

A veiled figure with two large radiant wings sprouting from her back, her wingspan longer than the whole cart, though she towered over me. She was a tiny bit taller than me even when I was elevated by the cart. Unmoving she stood there for several minutes with her head tilted down hiding her face behind the dark brown veil.

I had to keep my voice down in order to not awaken the others. (''Uhm…Can I help you with anything?'')

Her head snapped up, throwing the hood back revealing all of her features. Glowing white eyes accompanied by a small nose and a cute smile. Her silver hair was split into two sections, the front with bangs curving upwards towards her, and the backwith long luminous hair reaching past her waist. Everything was topped off with a luminous halo brightly shining above her head, matching her divine aura.

Those soft lips parted, letting out an angelic gentle voice warming my ears in the cold dune wasteland. (''Abaddon, you may not know who I am, but please listen to me. What I am about to tell you is very important.'')

I am willing to listen, but not from someone I don't know the name of. At least she could tell me that. (''I'll listen on the condition that you tell me your name. That's fair.'')

She looked at me strangely for a second before bursting into an adorable giggle. Her small frame shook from her little laugh, the wings following the movements of her body.

(''Phew. That is understandable, you've been through a lot lately so you want to be cautious. That's alright, I will give you my name. My friends call me Ath but officially I'm known as Athenais, the first archangel of the Church of Kronos.'') Oh. Yeah that's normal, meeting three ethereal being within such a short time frame. This is starting to get more and more suspicious, meaning that Void was correct, there is an ulterior motive behind their actions.

I could not take my eyes off her pristine face, even though Lucet was a goddess, something about Athenais was very different.

(''You said you had something to tell me right Athenais? Please tell me, I assume its something along the lines of why Lucet has come to me.'') It has to be connected, otherwise it doesn't make sense, there would be no reason that two of the most powerful beings would seek me out.

(''Lucet? Are you by chance referring to..-? I see, well that's fair, it has been a long time since anyone used her name. Lucet sounds lovely, did she choose it?'') I shook my head in response to her question. (''I did.'')

(''I see, well congratulations on naming a powerful goddess. But let's get onto the main topic. I'm sure Lucet has explained to you that you are a very important person right now.'')

That much I know, something along the lines of becoming one of the most powerful people in Kine. But aside from that nothing else, maybe she will explain the situation to me.

(''You will be expected to fight a person far more powerful than nearly anyone in this world, she will end up doing some very…destructive things. And it's your job to defeat her, this way everyone will be safe!'')

I can tell she did her very best to explain the situation to me in a non anxiety inducing way, which is quite smart. Normally this information would weigh heavily on anyone, but in the last few days I've been through enough to build some resistance.

(''Do you have anymore details about it? A name or magical affinity?'')

She hesitated for a second, almost as if pondering whether or not to reveal the information to me, which provides more credibility to our theory. Her eyes snapped at me, smiling the same expression as before, this time though I could feel a sort of malice emanating from her.

(''I do have more information. The following pieces will certainly bring you some anxiety, so be prepared Abaddon.'')

Oh shit. She is more transparent than Lucet at least, revealing some crucial information about my adversary. Lucet could've at least told me the name, but its fine now, I will find out through Athenais.

(''The name is Regina, her birthplace is unknown but its believed that she grew up in a village from the east. If you need a way to identify her look for a girl with long pinkish hair partnered with a crown of candles. Golden eyes like an endless sea of honey and a sizable chest for her height. Sorry, I included the last bit based off of what Lucet had told me.'')

That is quite a good amount of information on who I am supposed to fight, at least enough to avoid her until I'm prepared.

(''And the last bit I am able to tell you now is her magical affinity. It's…'')

Yes! This is the most important part, with this I can prepare for what comes next, someone as powerful as her will most likely be nature-

(''Destruction'')

(''I don't think I heard you correctly. Can you repeat it please.'')

Her smile never faded but the feelings it conveyed weren't static, as if trying to display what she felt deep inside. There is no way what she said was true, there has to be no way that this happens.

(''It may be hard to swallow, but her magical affinity is destruction. In other words, she is one of the destined children.'')

My eyes shot open like an arrow at the mention of a destined child, prompting Athenais to widen her smile, again filled with malice. Her lips gently parted and thrust her arm forward summoning a piece of parchment paper with words spread on every inch of its surface.

(''I had a feeling you would know about it kid, but you just confirmed it. You have known about the destined children this whole time, you fucking creature.'')

What the hell?! What is her problem, I didn't do anything wrong so why is she acting so hostile?

(''Oh stop crying in your mind, I know everything that is going on in there, everything that has happened to you is on this piece of paper. You must have enjoyed yourself this whole time, knowing that the world will end! You mistake of a child, you are no better than her-'')

A beam of light flew past my ear, grazing Athenais' shoulder causing some ethereal blood to leak. She stared in awe with that never fading smile on her horrifyingly contorted face. Her eerie white eyes glued onto my figure, her halo trembled and her wings shook violently.

Like clockwork, my head turned around to see where the beam came from, only to see a pissed Lucet staring at Athenais. I'd never seen her look so serious before, a completely different person from before, making it hard to believe this is the goddess that wanted to cuddle with me.

(''Athenais, I said I will take care of the boy, so why are you here. You may be part of another church but you have no authority to go around messing with my property!'')

(''Oh how immature you are Lucet, thinking that you can just claim people with the snap of your fingers. And that boy is a culprit, a catalyst of the world ending. Why must we listen to Israh and train him, we could find where Regina is and kill her right now!'') Hysterically she screamed out to Lucet, complaining about my participation in this grand scheme I had no choice but to be part of.

(''If we could've killed her now we would've you, idiot! Seriously this is why Israh didn't reveal the full plan to you, never have you done things rationally when it concerned the entire world. This boy is the key to winning, and if you have more complaints then you will have to go through all four of us gods!'') That was her final statement, one that shut down Athenais into a grunting silence, causing her to shake uncontrollably with the malice I was sensing.

Her eyes finally wandered away from, but to a more worrisome place, Zeraf and Ghost. Once more her smile widened, starting a cackle more frightening than the fight against Void, a literal being of the void and darkness.

(''Fine have it your way, but if you fail I am torturing your friends until they beg for mercy. Then I will strap you to a chair and force you to watch them being carved out in the most painful way manner. So you better do your very best Abaddon, the angel of the abyss.'')

That was her final proclamation before speeding of into the distance at record-shattering speeds, creating gulfs of wind in her wake. Her malice had brought some heat to my body which has since dissipated, making me shiver again.

Around my back two arms rubbed, tracing the lines on my shirt wrapping around to my chest. Typical Lucet, but I no longer had the energy to react in retaliation, not after everything they said. I let her pull me down in her blanket and comfort me with her warm embrace, cradling me in between her soft chest.

It was..calming. Enough fade the already dark world into the land of dreams.
