Chapter 22 - Treadmill

It didn't take long for John and Ray to get to the school's field. The light in their eyes that had disappeared during the duration of the classes were now back. This was what they have passion doing, nothing else.

when they had all gathered, the coach and the assistant coach made their way to the pitch. Without saying much the coach took them to the locker room to get dressed. It could be said that the coach was now in his working zone, no space for nonsense at all.

John, looked at the coach who was now giving off the coach vibes and he knew there was no time slacking, he had to give it his all and avoid all distraction.

After the Boys had put on their team's Jersey, they could not help but take a Team picture. The emotions they were feeling now could not be contained.

Although some managed to make the with talent, most of the boys made it through hard work, Including both John and Ray. These two especially were on cloud nine, they couldn't believe it.

But before any of the boys could move From Cloud nine to over the moon, Coach Ben brought them back to Earth with only one sentence.

'Time for work boys.'

The boys felt like they had just taken a dive into an icy lake. They realized this was not just Cruise, it was work, training and more work.

Coach Ben and his assistant Coach walked in front from the ground of boys. The boys were suddenly served a feast for their eyes. Joy's back looked like two soccer balls in all the boy's mind. 'Look at 'em bounce.' They all though, including John. Although John was not going to easily fall to temptation, he couldn't stop one thought from surfacing in his mind, 'Can sure play with 'em all day'.

The boys didn't even realize when they had gotten to the Team's Gym room. How could they realise when they had been busy playing, ' Follow the Leader.' It wasn't until they heard a sharp whistle before the boys were snapped from their enlightenment.

The tried to hide their embarrassment by taking interesting looks at the Gym room. The boys were suddenly in scientist mode, even getting amazed at the weights. Their face expressing their fake amasment, 'hhhhh.....How does this make one stronger.'

Coach Ben serious expression almost cracked at the antics of the team. The corner of his lips lifting ever so slightly.

Focusing on the work at hand, Coach Ben garthered everyone around.

' Today we would be performing drills to improve your speed. nothing serious, just the normal run on the treadmill'.

Before the boys could wonder whether the 'normal run on the treadmill' was real or the coach was just displaying his knowledge in English, They all found themselves, each on a treadmill, barely trying their best not to 'bite the dust'.

After the initial surprise disappeared, the normal run had now become a competition. The boys subconsciously tried their best not to be the first to fall. It suddenly became a question of who would be the last man standing,...eerr running.

Everyone's treadmill had been set to the same speed, so there was no excuse of 'mine was faster', there was no way for the boys to save face if they f***ed up here, and none of them wanted to be the one to 'open the ceremony', especially not in the presence of Angel Joy.

The run continued for half an hour. It seemed like coach Ben was trying to overexert them on the first day only. Meanwhile, the coach's eyes lit up for a second before dimming. Even he did not expect these newbie's to past this long, he thought they would not be able to make it past the 30 min mark. It seemed like this year they had managed to get rare talents.

Even the first to fall lasted up till an hour before he could not continue any longer and had to give up. Meanwhile, this said person was currently sulking, not even proud of being able to last an hour.

The remaining boys kept up the font until the one hour thirty minutes mark, when no one was able to stand on their feet.

Everyone on the team, except one man, were currently feeling down, including John and Ray. They were seemingly oblivious to the fact that they had more than proved themselves. All that they were thinking of was the fact that they were not able to be the last man standing.

Meanwhile, the last man standing, Rave, was currently feeling like a superhero. He couldn't help but think that he was flash, the fastest men alive.

After the speed run, the team per took in other basic drills. By the time they were through, they were all smelling like factory workers. The training was finished at 6:00 pm, after which everyone scurried home. Even John did not even think of branching at Ray's house. All he wanted was to get home, freshen up. eat till he would not be able to eat anymore, and then sleep.

There was no time for anything else. Not even time to call Mercy.
