That night, Ulric killed almost everyone in the palace. The ones that he didn't kill were those who took their own lives like the Mother Empress and the Queen. At the very least, he gave them a quick death – instant and painless except for the third prince.
Apparently, aside from being called the third prince, he was also the King's favorite candidate to become the Crowned Prince – his successor.
He dragged him to the courtroom where his father sat on the floor waiting for Ulric to return. His face was ghastly pale as when he heard the shouts for help inside the palace. He closed his eyes, but his mind would instantly conjure the faces of his wives, sons, and daughter – asking him for help.
"Father!" The third prince exclaimed when he saw his father with a severed hand. "Father! Where are the guards? Why didn't you tell us to flee?" The King didn't say a word. "Why is this happening? Why is our imperial army rebelling?"
