Chapter 6 - New town, New home, New school

(Liam's POV)

I opened my eyes to the warm sensation of the sun kissing my cheeks. For a few seconds I stared at the ceiling before stretching my arms and raising my head off the pillow.

I got out from under the white cotton sheets, and started to fix the bed, after which I headed to the bathroom and took a cold shower.

It has been about three days since I moved to Duskwood. I remembered when I first entered Duskwood, I couldn't explain why but everything felt familiar, it was Deja vu. It felt like I was finally back home after being away for so many years.

That day, we drove past a path running between a bunch of trees. I knew the path led to a house, for I could slightly see the roof through the crack of the trees. I didn't know why, but I somehow felt like I have been down that path many times before. My heart started race, as a feeling of longing and hope fell upon me.

I can't really do anything other than wonder why I have these familiarities, so I just try to brush it off when it happens.

I left the bathroom and threw on my favorite hoodie, which was as yellow as the sun, along with a black jeans and a black and white sneakers. I hopped down the stairs and headed into the kitchen.

"Morning mom." I smiled as I walked towards her and kissed her on the cheek.

"Morning." She answered.

I took a seat on the opposite side of the counter, when I did she stated, "You look excited."

I chippered, "I am. New town, new home, new school, and most of all I'm with my parents whom I love. What's there to not be excited about?"

When she heard this, she giggled and we continued to talk about the past few days, laughing at the silly things that had happened when unpacking. Not long after, my dad walked into the kitchen. "What's got you guys so spirited this early in the morning?" He yawned.

"Morning dad." I smiled turning my head to him.

He walked towards my mom and pecked her cheeks with his lips then said, "Morning."

My mom smiled before answering his previous question, "Your son's excited about being here, and about his new school."

"Really? Oh, right. You're taking in the transfer papers today right?" My dad questioned making me gleefully nod my head in response.

My mom slided a plate with toast and scrambled egg on it towards me along with a cup of milk. "Yeah he is. Liam eat up, we'll head to the school soon." She ordered me.

I ate as fast as I could during the time my dad mixed mixed his coffee and my mom went to take a shower. When I was done I washed the little amount of dirty dishes in the sink, then went for the transfer papers that were in my mom's room.

My dad left the house for his new job around 7:00 a.m. and my mom and I left about an hour later.

Before going to the school mom drove around the town. We drove by the park, then we took a few pictures by the bell tower. Next we went to a bakery and bought some chocolate croissants to take home for dad, because it was his favorite. Before we knew it, it was already lunchtime, so mom and I went to a pizza bakery and ate pizza.

"Slow down Liam. Chew your food." Mom laughed, as she watched me taking one bite of pizza after another.

Having my mouth stuffed with pizza, I could only muffle, "But I want to hurry so we can quickly go to the school."

After a while my mom's face became serious as she asked, "Liam, are you sure you're okay with this sudden change. Your dad and I just dragged you from your home, and your friends to a place that's unfamiliar to you all without giving you a choice."

Hearing this, I swallowed the pizza and washed it down with water.

"Ma, don't worry about it. I'm fine... Honestly, I wasn't too hot about it at first, but when I got here, I don't know why but I felt more home than I've ever been before. I know it's strange but you know since as long as I could remember I never really felt at ease. I always felt like I was missing something from my life, but when I got here all that disappeared. I admit what had appeared was a longing in my heart. Maybe for someone or something, but I have a feeling that I'm going to find it here in Duskwood." I assured my mom.

She looked at me and smiled, "Thank you Liam, for understanding. To tell the truth, what did your dad and I do to have such a good kid like you?"

"You slept together." I joked, making my mom reach over the table and slightly smacked my head.

"It was a rhetorical question. Eat your food." She hissed.

After we finished eating, we finally went to the school. Mom parked the car in the school parking lot then we made our way to the principal's office.

"Good afternoon Mr. Rivers." My mom greeted as both her and I sat in the seats in front of his desk.

"Mrs. Wood's, and I guess you must be Liam Woods." He said while stretching out his hand and shook my mom's then turned it towards me.

"Yes sir." I said as I took his hand and shook it.

After greeting each other, Mr. Rivers and mom went straight to business and talked about my transfer.

"Normally We don't allow transfer students in the middle of the year, but since this was short notice and his academics are over the roof, He can start tomorrow." Mr. Rivers went on.

My mom thanked him and handed him the transfer papers to sign. Before we left, Mr. Rivers then said, "Tomorrow when you arrive, I want you to come to my office for your class schedule."

"Yes sir, and thank you." I said, then followed my mom out the door.

When we arrived near the parking lot, I had a sudden urge to use the bathroom.

"Mom, wait for me in the car. I need to use the bathroom." I stopped and told her.

"Do you know where it is?" She asked me as she looked around the empty hallways.

I smiled and gently nudged her towards the exit and said, "Don't worry, I'll manage."

"Alright, I'll be in the car." Mom assured walking towards the door.

"Okay." I smiled and started walking down the hall to the right of the doors.

While I was walking down the hall, the bell suddenly rang, indicating that school was over. In a matter of seconds the hallways were swarming with students, to which I had to wiggle my way through to try and find the bathroom.

After a while of looking, I found a bathroom near the science lab and went inside. I used it, and watched my hands then headed out back into the hallways, which were not as crowded as before.

While I was walking back in the same direction I came, I started to feel like someone was chasing after me. I didn't turn to check who it was, because ever since I've been here I keep getting these weird feelings. I thought maybe it was just my imagination again.

I walked around the corner and disappeared into the crowd then headed out the door in direction of the parking lot.

Following that, I climbed into mom's car and buckled my seatbelt. "Took you long enough." Mom said to me.

"I'm lucky I didn't get trampled by the stampede of students who dashed out of class the moment the bell rang for dismissal." I breathed pointing in the direction of the school.

Mom chuckled and started the car, but before she drive off her phone rang.

"Hello?" She answered. "Oh, I emailed it last night." She then said. From that I knew that it was work.

Apart from my dad being a professor in literature and mythological studies, my mom is a writer. She has already published one of the best selling books this year titled 'Love in Time', which is about a man from the past and a woman from the future, due to a astronomical occasion met and fell in love.

Like the both of my parents, I love literature and won a few literary competitions in California. Like my mom I hope in becoming a writer.

While she was talking on the phone, I rested my head on the car window and looked around the parking lot where I could see students loitering in corners, or either getting into the school bus or a car to go home.

While looking I saw a black car drive past in the front of ours. It was a Chevy Impala. This was the one thing that got my attention. I don't know why but I felt like I have seen this car before. It felt so familiar. Suddenly my heart started to race, as I asked myself, 'Why is this happening.'
