Henry was the one surprised when he felt Irene's smaller boot press against his and make a home next to it for the entire duration of their meal. It made it hard to eat, but he remained composed even though there were butterflies in his stomach.
He wished he could do so much more than glance at her.
After finishing his meal, Henry made a point to say he would be in his study when he excused himself, hoping that Irene took the hint that he still wanted to meet with her.
From the northwestern windows in his study, Henry was able to watch the last bit of the sun as it passed over the horizon and dipped under the surface, offering pinks and purples to the people who witnessed it. Dusk set in and the clouds in the sky coming from the east seemed heavy with rain. It would be a beautiful noise to fall asleep to that night.
