Irene was argumentative all the time, but alcohol brought it out so much more.
When she got over the initial shock of being led to a man's bed, she began talking about all the reasons why she shouldn't be there in the first place. Even as Henry lowered her onto his extra pillow, put her sword on the side table, and pulled off her boots, she had something to say.
"I'm going to get your bed dirty," she insisted, still slurring her words. "It's hardly appropriate for a woman to be in a bedroom with her commander even though you don't see me as a lady."
Since she was lying on top of the blankets, he retrieved an extra one from a basket and placed it over her while she spoke.
