Bickering. That's what he woke up to.
"Am I going to have to send a letter to Commander Lothian to convince you to stay put for more than an hour at a time?" someone snapped. "Are you a child?"
"You look so young. You're supposed to be out having adventures not already a bitter old man with too much life experience," another voice responded. "Regardless, I'm going out to the garden to pick berries."
There was a huff from the first voice and a mutter of something unintelligible.
The last thing Alix remembered from before that moment was guarding at night. He woke up thinking he must have leaned against a rock and fallen asleep but his body felt heavy and his voice wouldn't come out.
He tried to speak but his throat felt dry and nothing more than an exhale came out.
Not being able to move was frustrating. He tried to lift his arms and when nothing seemed to be working, a groan finally escaped his lips.
