Blade screamed and flapped his wings at anyone who passed by him until one of the knights in the Duke's Tower was brave enough to approach the hawk. His temper was particularly volatile that day and even the servants were petrified of him.
Everyone in the small castle was shocked to see that it was Irene who was brave enough to approach the bird.
She slowly walked to Blade with her gloved hands raised. When the bird saw that she didn't have bad intentions, he held still long enough for her to pull the letter out of the pouch he carried around one of his legs.
A maid ran up to Irene with a package of steak in her hands.
"His grace often feeds Blade a snack when he's brought him a letter," the maid said.
"Of course he does," Irene uttered, a small smile pulling at the corner of her lips. "Then give it here, please."
