Throughout that day, it wasn't far from the knights' or apprentices' minds that it was the end of winter.
Each time one of them faced the cold snowmelt, they were forced to wear a brave face and not crumble into a pile of shivers in front of the others. The task of bringing their supplies over the water would have been far easier if it weren't for the season it was. In a couple of months, it would have been a breeze to wade through water, but in a couple of months as well, the water would have likely been gone.
With the temperature being taken into consideration, it was much harder for the apprentices to hide their shivering once the rays of the sun could no longer warm them. They had worked the rest of the afternoon into the evening to build camp while the knights burnt the goblins and did various other tasks.
