The sun was starting to arc to the opposite horizon by the time they had brought the wagons and logs to where the water was more shallow and seemingly safe to cross. Never before had Henry felt time constraints eating away at him so quickly. It was making him feel a bit on edge.
While it hadn't been explicitly stated, this was his first big test as a commander.
He didn't know if the second in commands would feel like they could speak out if they questioned what Henry was doing. He was sure the men wouldn't allow him to lead them astray. After all, they were dealing with valuable supplies that would decide whether or not they made it to Chemois.
If they lost all the supplies, they would have to take a detour and find a village with enough to give the traveling party at the end of winter when storage was low.
