The trip across the castle was uneventful except for the princess's beating heart. In the silence of the halls this late at night, she was certain it was echoing off of the pristine brick that lined the inside of the castle as he nerves got the best of her.
She wondered if Henry would be awake. Had he been plagued by their situation in the way that she was?
Rather than knocking and giving away herself to the other guest rooms in the hallway or the maids who were likely in other areas of the castle while they were in lower demand for the night, Princess Marie simply walked into the room.
It was darker than her room and she was grateful she brought a candle.
Inside the fireplace was glowing and only giving off a small amount of heat compared to the one in her room that was kept on because of how easily cold she was. Since the other candles in the room had been unlit, she knew right away that Henry had gone to bed.
