The couple pulled away from one another and Henry leaned forward so his waist was pressed between her knees. His hands went to the couch on either side of her and he gave her a small, shy smile.
To the princess he could be so intimidating when he was angry but when he gave her such a smile he looked timid. She didn't know which side of him she believed more.
Yet either side of him caused her heart to lurch at the sight of him. She had been so afraid of losing that specific feeling. When he left her behind, she thought that he had finally decided she was too much for him.
Despite how awful she must look with her eyes swollen and red along with her usual adornments very much lacking, he seemed to be impressed with her all the same. Her desire to reward him for returning to her was akin to a master giving their pet a treat. She wanted to show him just how good of a job he did for being so loyal.
All she had was a kiss.
